Do you get annoyed when people that only watch Naruto and/or DBZ call themselves anime fans? I can't lie when i read stuff like that it irks me a tad bit.

They are considered anime but they call themselves anime fanatics and they only watch one.

Well, as Princeblaster pointed out, they are still fans. Doesn't matter if they watch Naruto or Cowboy Bebop.

I do tend to get annoyed when this occurs. I can understand what Princeblaster is saying. But saying you are an anime fanatic and only watch one, is like someone saying they love Heavy Metal and they only listen to one band. You can't really love what you don't truly know. They can say what they like, but it just seems like a blatantly ignorant thing to do.

I feel like life is too short to concern one's self with that sort of thing too much. Just enjoy what you like and leave others to like their own thing, everyone has to start some place right ?

A little bit. Mostly because when someone says they're an anime fan I'm like "Awesome someone to talk to about anime!" I've seen more than 150 different anime series. When I find out the person has only seen a few I get a bit disappointed. Past that I just roll my eyes a bit if I hear it in a conversation I'm not involved in and not really concern myself with it.
Watching a little bit of anime is better than the people who hate it based on bad stereotypes.

I haven't met anyone who thought they were anime fans/fanatics/anime watchers, after only watching one or two different anime. Unless they are maybe 11 years old and don't understand that to be a "fan" of anything, their decision must be made from more than one sample or series. How can you be a baseball fan if you've only watched two ball games?

I don't mind those people, I usually just try introducing them to more anime instead of extensively talking about the one series they have watched. I was the founder of the anime club at my school and recruited over 100 people the first year. A majority of them had only watched things like, Full Metal Alchemist, Hetalia, Bleach, Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon ect. So I'm used to it.

An anime fan is someone who enjoys multiple anime series. If the only series they enjoy are the big long running series they are still fans. I may not like their tastes in anime but I can't deny that they are fans of anime.

FAN2
noun
noun: fan; plural noun: fans
a person who has a strong interest in or admiration for a particular sport, art form, or famous person.

C/P from Google Dictionary. I think the main point of irritation is that people refer to themselves as "fans" of Anime after only watching "Mainstream" anime (Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Death Note, SAO, AoT, etc). They equate to the "hipsters" of the Anime/Manga fandom. It does bug me a little bit when someone tells me they like anime, but they haven't actually watched anything other than the modern "mainstream" anime that they show on Adult Swim/Toonami.

Honestly, to each his own though. Let us not become elitist pricks when it comes to anime the way that HoC has done to Cosplay...
