If you say that you haven't, don't,or will never do anything racially insensitive, then you're a huge liar.I not going to lie,one time when I was struggling in my math class,I paid extra money to make sure my tutor was Asian .I feel kinda bad now but, I want to know what you did that might be considered "racist".

Am I racist, or are there just a lot of thin skinned people who have been raised to act as if they used to be a slave and you were a slave owner? Being insensitive is not the same thing as being racist, or homophobic, misogynistic or the like.

I won't deny that I've made racist jokes before. Though I wouldn't class myself as a racist since said jokes don't represent my actual beliefs.

I feel like this could escalate quickly and may be more fitting for the extended discussion forum.

Just saying.

Everyone IS somewhat racist. There have been numerous studies done on the topic and racism has been found to be universal. Some evolutionary theorists suggest that it is an actual instinctive (biological) characteristic that allowed human tribes to survive and grow by recognizing kin from outsiders (even from early childhood).

In one study (somewhat contradicting the evolutionary theory), a shooting simulator was used - the police training type where one has to shoot or hold fire as the different types of targets pop up - and it was found that black targets were shot more often and more quickly than paler complexioned targets, EVEN by BLACK shooters. This causes a lot of debate. Some people think that social stereotypes are to blame, and some people say that the stereotypes exist for a reason. Of those who think stereotypes exist for a reason, some think that race is the cause, while others think sociologo-economic and cultural factors are contributing to the events which mold the stereotype.

Personally, I think stereotypes DO exist for a reason, but not primarily due to race itself.

One Example:

I live in an area where there is literally - no joke - a "Rent-a-Wheel" shop which rents rims for cars. It is in a K-Mart parking lot next to a McDonalds in a southern state. Now, guess the ethnicity of the majority of Rent-a-Wheel's clients. You'd probably get it right on the first try. Stereotypes do exist for a reason, but it certainly isn't genetics that make people want to drive around in 1980s purple-spray-painted Buicks with busted headlights, no suspension and $2000 spinners.

Another example:

There was a Japanese cultural festival in my town. It was sort of like the high-school cultural festivals you see in anime. Outside the building, numerous parents were with their children. The Japanese women were well-dressed, never more than a few paces away from their little ones, never took their eyes off them, and had their arms outstretched to catch them. Most of the white parents were sitting at a table drinking beers and chatting while their kids ran around throwing clods of dirt at eachother in the street.

In short, cultural norms exist and people within a culture also tend to be of the same ethnic background. I will choose the company I keep based on the individual whenever possible, but when personal conversation is not possible I will rely on my past experiences with that culture. Everyone does it - it is an instinctive response to categorize things in such a way - but "good" people will never admit such a thing because admitting such a thing would be "racist."

Yeah it is. I'm not chastising you for it, but it absolutely is.

I can't say that I have ever said or done anything "racist", but then I refuse to recognize the socio-political concept of "race".

That is a tight sidewalk at the far end, I see why he'd cross to the other side, rather considerate. It couldn't be just a perspective thing, since the camera angle is too high, and the guy's body at the far end is clearly taking up almost the whole sidewalk. I can be too much of an a-hole to bother with crossing, though. At the point that we got close enough to each other, if there wasn't enough room for both of us, I'd probably just try to flatten up against the wall and have them squeeze past.

i wouldn't say everyone's racist. Its an animals instincts to be afraid of something that is different. Humans have instincts as-well, Its less "racism" and more "fear of the unknown and fear of differences". People will always be afraid someone who looks different than them, that's just a natural survival instinct that can not be bred out.
