Nozaki-kun and quite possibly Hanayamata are my favorites (so far). I'm all for good violent action anime like Aldnoah and SAO2 but any show that can bring a light hearted smile to my face trumps me gasping as someone gets utterly destroyed fighting someone else.

The summer anime that have had the best opening episodes so far I'd have to say would be: Hanayamata, Barakamon and Tokyo Ghoul. SAO II, Aldnoah.Zero and Akame ga Kill had good first episodes as well but I they were mainly for setting up the plot and introducing us to some of the characters.

Gonna have to give Tokyo Ghoul and Aldnoah.Zero another episode or two before I pick, but those are my frontrunners for now. Also I don't usually like romantic dorky shows but..... Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun was strangely entertaining for me. The humor in it just works well I guess.

It's obviously too early to say for sure (most of these have only had one episode), and the first two have the unfair advantage of being part of franchises I already like, but this is pretty much my favorites from first impressions:

- Sailor Moon Crystal
- Free! Eternal Summer
- Hanayamata
- Ao Haru Ride

I'm waiting for Terror in Tokyo though, I'm kind of a Shinichirō Watanabe fanboy

Nozaki-kun, by far, had the best opening episode of any show I've seen thus far. I think it has explosive potential as a smart, poignant and funny commentary on both romance tropes and romance in general.

Rail Wars! also surprised me with how much fun it was. And the OP/ED combo is the best 1-2 punch of the season.

My current Personal pet:
Terror in Tokyo (Beautiful)

Runner ups with BANG up openers I enjoyed:
Aldnoah.Zero (Inoah, you get me)
Barakamon (Can you say mega incoming hit?! Already has a fantastic cast)
Nozaki-kun (This was a huge shocker and fighting for number 1, watched the first episode 6 times!!!)
Akame Ga Kill (No surprise)
Tokyo Ghoul (Delicious)
Ao Haru Ride (Guilty pleasure Shojo)

Glasslip almost makes it into the list I am just waiting for episode two to see if i can fall in love with it(the cast)

The rest were fun as well, including Rail Wars, but for a different reason ^_~...Excluding BasRock, and Argevollen, those were shit.

Aldnoah Zero is really good so far. I also like Akame Ga Kill's brutal story and Momiji Rurumo is just a joy. I haven't started Glasslip yet but plan on watching the first two episodes back-to-back.
The only other one people are raving about is Tokyo Ghoul but I have no idea how they can say best this season with such a weak first episode. The anime is not the manga, many things can still go wrong. I hope they don't of course, good horror anime is a rare blessing, but there is still a chance.

Aldnoah Zero is at the top this season imo. Sword Art, as good as it is, is a close second.

Terror in Resonance - no other show grips me for the 20 something minutes this summer season like this does. Great animation, music, and the plot keeps me coming back for more

Aldnoah Zero is an honorable mention as this story seems to be interesting so far. Looking forward to see where it goes.

Barakamon gets a shout out too because there's always room for a good comedy anime.

Zankyou no Terror- Amazing animation, amazing story, amazing music. As long as each episode is as interesting as the ones already out, this is gonna at least be my favorite of the season, maybe even the year.

Honorable Mention:

Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun- I don't even know why I love this show so much, but I do.
