Post Reply Can we have a silent edit

Can we have an edit option that doesn't bump the thread. Sometimes I just want to fix a typo, hardly something worthy of sending the thread to the top of the forum.

This would be nice, as I often check in on certain threads depending on when they were last updated.

The worst threads for this are ones by CR staff, especially announcement threads. As earlier posts get updated, the list view makes it appear like the last post is by a staff member or a mod. When it's really an edit of an earlier post, and nothing really to do with the lateast entry in the actual conversation.

Personally, this isn't something I would want "on" by default with no method to change it.

For the Site News announcements, for example, I know to check the first message to see if it has been updated if the last message isn't new.

The ones that bug me are the people that edit a message somewhere in the middle of a thread, but don't post a new message letting people know they just updated an older message.

Perhaps the best method would be to have the stealth edit on by default, but have a checkbox that needs to be ticked if the person wants the thread bumped by the edit.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. The few times I've seen it implemented it always an option the users had to explicitly choose to enable for each post the edited.
