I would have to say Evangelion. Gundam was ruined for me with some crappy rip off and the emo kids are annoying and aren't as enjoyable to watch as Evangelion's are ;D

Bokurano is possibly the best and most tragic mecha series I've ever seen. It is a must watch if you're a fan of giant mecha or tragedy series.
