Zoids Chaotic Century was a great story. And I liked the uniqueness of the mechs. It will aways stand out as one of the best mecha stories ever in my mind.

Personally, I think that the Gundam series has fallen into the same trap that Yu-Gi-Oh did. WAY too many retread series. Basically the same thing over and over and over. For older mecha series, my favorite has got to be GoLion/Voltron. I loved that series. Especially the way the lions all connected together while still being able to function effectively individually.. The story for me was very engaging. As for newer series, definitely Evangelion. And, finally, for newest series, I am thoroughly enjoying Total Eclipse. Cohesive storyline, great animation, and characters that I really like, especially the underlying near-sexual tension between Yuuya and Yui. Now I have to wait yet ANOTHER week (maybe more, since I did not see any preview of a next episode) for more.

Don't laugh at my choice but I think Gunparade March is the best mech anime. (It's the best one I've seen anyway). Great little anime, love the characters and the whole premise. Worth watching!

i think IGPX (Immortal Grand Prix) was pretty good... not sure how many people remember it though.. seems like all i ever see on here about mecha is Gundam Seed and Code Geass (not sure i spelled that correctly...)

Personally I prefer the "Super Robot" genre. So for me it would have to be Gurren Lagann, G Gundam, or Gao Gai Gar.
