It was so funny seeing Rei go into overprotective mama mode and beat the crap out of the guy who tried to kidnap little Izumi!

lol

Just love the brother vs Ryouma scene.

Just funny that the singer Daigo is the seiyuu for Shougo who is a singer lol but I guess thats expected since this character was modeled after him by his sister LOL . I really enjoy Eguchi kun as Ryouma. Havent heard him in any lead anime role lately. Definitely happy for Hirakawa since he has been getting more and more work lately .

Daigo --Wish ----

just too corny

but look at those long fingers man... they are musician fingers

Here is a more of Shougo in Daigo's personality

Hah, I knew that was going to happen. Following the formula, too many guys and girls want to rape that dude. Not that the formula is a bad thing per se, since it works.

Episode 9

Izumi is famous, and that's not what he was hoping for with a bazillion fans wanting a piece of him. He orders a crapload of Ryoma merchandise and BL manga while sheltered in his room, and he thought that he would be fine going to a doujinshi market as long as he wore those glasses. Whoops, a girl broke them by accident and now he is mobbed and in a dangerous situation to end on a cliffhanger. One more episode to go as now Izumi's quiet life in a famous family is about to drive him nuts just like ten years ago.

So glad I saw this thread! Love seeing other people enjoy this show as much as I have. I seriously couldn't wait for the next episode so I decided to read the manga......and it's so amazing! I love all the characters and their relationships together.

Oh the cliffhanger!!!!!!!! >_<

I'm liking this anime a lot, I'm glad I gave it a chance. The episodes are so easy to watch and always enjoyable (as opposed to other animes where I feel like I'm forcing myself to keep watching). I take back everything I said before, this is a cute BL anime!!! Ryouma is a good seme who doesn't force himself on his uke and Izumi is not the weak and in denial typical uke, they are great characters and make a cute couple. <33

Rei is my favorite character though ^^ I wish we could see more of his romance with Shougo. Also, Izumi reading yaoi manga and asking Rei those questions about sex was hilarious! !

I just caught up with this show and I've been enjoying it quite a lot, it's kind of a shame if the next episode is the last.

I think it's an excellent romantic comedy. I don't have a particular interest in BL or male fanservice but both the romance and the comedy are more than enough to carry the show (the other aspects would just be a bonus for some people I suppose). I'd consider reading the manga, assuming it's not too different. The explicit stuff wouldn't particularly appeal but it'd be interesting to see if it'd actually put me off, it's something I haven't tried yet. I usually only read manga in English and print form though so it might not be available.

I liked the way that both Izumi and Ryouma handled falling in love with a guy when they thought they were straight. It's pretty good for comedy but I also felt it was somewhat realistic and sensibly handled. I also liked the fact that Ryouma didn't want to force himself on Izumi (even if his willpower was a little weak at times) and that both genuinely worry about other people's feelings (even if they aren't always aware of what they're doing to people, especially in Izumi's case).

Izumi may not be especially "manly" but I like the fact that he's kind of a regular guy (outside of his family circumstances). I don't really think it'd be fair to say that Izumi is particularly "girly", even if he can look like a girl when he's dressed up.

Ryouma's reactions are often the best part of the show, I think partly because the show does a good job of setting things up. The "boyfriend shirt" bit was a highlight. Another highlight was when Izumi had a dream about the Lala Ruru anime, that was quite fun and also managed to be somewhat touching. I prefer Gaga Ruru over Lala Ruru though (and her attack names are cool too).

The "censorship" is odd though, I'm not sure who'd be bothered by drawing the guys normally when they're getting close (I guess it's a little more than a peck on the cheek but they're not going all the way either). It does also seem like it could be an "artistic" thing too though so I guess it's not a problem.

Anyway, it seems I chose kind of a bad time to get up to date since there's a huge cliffhanger at the end of Episode 9. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see what happens. Not sure if this counts as a spoiler, but:

On another note, this show kind of reminds me a bit of Skip Beat. The focus is different (Skip Beat tends to be more about working in showbiz than romance) but they're both hilarious romantic comedies and they even both have similar good luck charms. I think most people that like one would probably like the other.

Episode 10 (Finale)

And so it ends here after only 10 episodes, and Izumi is in quite a pinch, but he managed to get out of it himself once he delivered a kick to the groin. So Kuroi is an assistant for Saotome, and Saotome looked at his manga once he heard that Izumi was down in the dumps. The moment of truth is at hand: as expected Izumi and Ryoma have officially tied the yaoi knot, and Izumi's career in show biz takes off. That's a nice way to end this short series.

Final Thoughts

For a BL show, I found myself really enjoying this show. While it has crazy comedy and some nice insight to the entertainment and manga world, first and foremost is the yaoi between Izumi and Ryoma, and that is told very nicely. All those other stuff kept me interested in this show, something that was missing in the other BL shows this season that makes for something that's either boring or stupid, and Love Stage is neither of those bad things. Being only ten episodes, the relationship didn't get as far as I would have liked, and that's my biggest gripe about this show, but in the end the other stuff make up for that major shortcoming.

Episode 10:

For being only 10 episodes long "Love Stage" has been one of the most exciting and engaging anime of this season. This series was incredibly hilarious but also moving with mostly strong characters who all had incredibly bizarre personalities, yet still felt human and were easy to get attached to. Izumi and Ryouma's relationship felt well-developed and realistic to an extent which most anime struggle to capture. They struggled with their emotions, waded through both their self-centred perspectives, dealt with Shougo, and by the end they came together to realise their desires in a manner that was both hilariously erratic but also touching. Though I really wish we'd gotten a few more episodes to see how their relationship as a couple developed, the finale was still satisfying as it came together well and rounded off the characters.

Overall, this anime came as a complete surprise to me as this is my first time watching a BL anime but I can confidently say it surpassed my expectations. Though I wish it was longer and had managed to flesh out more of the story-lines and characters, the anime was still very enjoyable and the ending was satisying. Hopefully people throw their money at it so we can get a second season as I believe it deserves it.

Whaaaaat? Why was it only 10 episodes? :(. Overall the series was pretty good - it was funny and the story flowed nicely. Maybe there will be a season 2?

I agree ... for a 10 episode BL anime, the story flowed well, the characters interesting , the adaptation was well done.
Its got a lot of funny scenes. Pretty good balance of comedy and drama

Well that last scene with the Pocky dance got my head hearing those commercials LOL
