Let's talk about boats. Not the nice boat we saw in School Days or looking at Takao's "engine room" in Arperggio of Blue Steel, but shipping itself!

A question that has always bothered me was "Who goes first when shipping someone?" Does the male go first? Does the more dominant person go first? Does it even matter? (Edit) I forgot an example of what I mean. Kirito x Asuna or Asuna x Kirito???

Bonus question: What are the qualifications that must be met before one may ship anime characters?

Tell me what you crazy people think!!!

My Shippers Gonna Ship (Yeah I just shamelessly plugged in my thread here, whatcha gonna do 'bout it) thread proves there are no qualifications, you ship who you want to ship!

As for the whole who goes first... I don't think there is any rule or anything on that. Some do male x female, some do female x male, some do alphabetical, I think I have seen some do age. Really its up to whoever is saying the ship.

Some also like to combine the names, so they will go with whatever sounds best that way: Nalu (Natsu x Lucy) Gruvia (Gray x Juvia) Shuri (Shu x Ruri) coincidentally these all happen to also be male x female... but I know I have seen some vice versa, I just can't recall any off the top of my head.

man idk it depends on the couple qualifications are always different. i guess as far as name-wise, i always go with male/female (i.e. okikagu, nalu, royai, jerza, etc), but it doesn't necessarily mean i think that way.

"Shipping can involve virtually any kind of relationship: from the well-known and established, to the ambiguous or those undergoing development, and even to the highly improbable or blatantly impossible. One "rule" of shipping states that if more than one person ships a couple it is a rightful 'ship'."

Also the internet gives us Rule 34 and 35. So no ship is safe either.

I've seen people literally ship mascots in 18+ ways (god the things the KU Jayhawk has done to the KSU Wildcat...)

You meant "hit the bricks" or "hit the road, jack. You're outta here"?

Whichever sounds better, of course. Usually, when you're given a pair of names, one of them will just sort of gravitate towards the front of the phrase, and the other towards the back. We subconsciously arrange those sorts of pairs or groups so that they're phonetically smoother, and therefore easier to pronounce.

It don't matter whose name is first. Also for qualifications someone needs to like someone for a ship to happen.

The order matters when your pair consists of the same sex (ie. seme x uke). As for qualifications, does not matter at all.

Who the hell cares? It's gonna be the same result in the end, I just do the men first for some reason.

In het: doesn't matter. However people do male/female
In GL: its usually the the one who acts more straightforward/shy or however their personality is.
In BL: that is a different story. Its always the seme/uke.

I think it goes down by how you are shipping in by the style and how the characters are.

Well, for me, it happens simultaneously. There's usually a moment similar to an epiphany that... Just happens and then I'm like "Yes. This is it. My new ship has been sent to the dock," Regardless of whose more dominant or not.

It depends on the couple's situation.

A. The name of the person who likes someone/The person they like
B. Boy/Girl
C. Seme/Uke
D. But when making shipping nicknames, it depends on who's name sounds better before and after.
