So Ive just finished watching Toradora both subbed and dubbed.

Pros of Subs:
The voice acting goes well with the characters
The subs are very well done
Nice story
Very enjoyable

Cons of Subs:
None

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros of Dub:
Very well known cast
Very enjoyable
Nice story

Cons of Dub:
The voice actors are not right for the characters they played

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So after much time on both, the Subs are better for entertainment BUT I really dont like reading for soooo long at one time.

The dub is good (Shame about the voices not in the right places)

Very good anime
Good story
Very likeable characters
Good animation

Final Verdict:

Sub
(9/10)

Dub
(7/10) - Voice cast in the wrong characters

This is one of those cases where, had you heard it dubbed first, then I feel the voices would be right for the characters. I had that happen with Spice & Wolf, which I watched on Netflix, so I saw it in English. I tried to move on to season 2 in Japanese afterwards and could not, because the delivery for the characters is different between the languages and I got to know them in English. I liked them more in English. It felt right to me, even though I knew that wasn't how they originally sounded.

With Toradora, I've only ever seen it in Japanese. I'm sure I'd feel exactly the same. Willing to bet the voice acting in English is fine, but if some of the characters are delivered a little different at all, I probably wouldn't be able to watch it at all. It'd have to be all Japanese, because that's how I got to know those characters.

I always felt Johnny Yong Bosch should have been Ryuuji, it was a pretty big letdown when I saw they had casted him as Kitamura. The dub isn't bad by any means, but I feel some of the dialogue is a bit too.. tween-ish.

I guess I am strange. With DVDs when I do is watch it dubbed first, Then dubbed with subtitles to see what they really said. Then I watch it in subbed only to hear the original voice cast. Sometimes the dubbing makes no sense what so ever. For example in Vandread season 1 episode Wonderful World they took a perfectly good song sung in English by a Japanese lady and replaced it with a perfectly terrible song that made no sense in context with the video. When I queried the current holder of the license they didn't know why either, but had to buy it that way.

I finished with the sub and am now watching the dub. My issue's mainly that the jokes aren't as funny. The voice actors are great for the most part but Ryuji's english voice feels a bit bland. Overall, I agree with Phraquards' scores. Sub 9/10, dub 7/10

I guess i get to be the contrary one today. i switched from the sub to the dub several episodes in and i couldn't switch back. i'm not saying that the dub was perfect e.g. Spice and Wolf (though i'm super biased about that.) it just seemed to work better. I typically watch the subs over dubs. This is the first time that the sub and dub have been generally equal and i simply liked the dub better so what i'm saying is both are good and i think more so than most shows, sub or dub being better is completely up to the person.

Side note about the jokes, am i the only one who remembers Johnny Yong Bosch's prostration yell? and Ryuji's love falsetto? maybe the humor of those transcend time and space and you weren't talking about them, but the dubbed jokes all seemed to have solid delivery.

Side of the side note, Johnny Yong Bosch as Kitamura was a better choice than Ryuji. Ryuji was supposed to be shy while Kitamura was charismatic and frankly insane at times and Johnny Yong Bosch is really good at doing those two together. (though i do agree Ryuji was a bit bland in English, the voice kinda fit his character.)

Alrighty i have stated my contrary opinion, NOW FIGHT ME INTERNET FORUM TROLLS!!!!!!!!

Exactly right. It should have been been reversed. But what can you do? As for the dub, i think it's pretty great. Sure there may be some things that annoy me, but that's about it

Another show I completely forgot they'd dubbed, so I've still never seen it to this day.
Most modern dubs suck anyway.
