I'm not very vocal about my love of anime outside of like the internet and stuff and even then it's under a synonym...I just don't feel I would be as accepted in the real world if I went around telling people I loved it. Heck I don't even have any friends who are into anime!

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything with this I guess I'm looking for a bit of advice/see how other people embrace their hobby?

Depends on the shows. Almost everyone knows i watch anime and that i am an avid fan of anime; but i almost rarely talk about it with other people unless i know they enjoy it as well.

I don't talk about it; mostly due to the misconception of what anime is.

Because of recent and past media exposure, most non anime watchers, or people ignorant to the cultures of other countries, believe anime to be "hentai" and "cartoon porn". While hentai is eroge in nature, people often generalize all anime to be eroge; mostly because of the ignorance of the mass media and the common news viewer and their inability to separate two different types of animations.

Depending on the situation and the group of people i am with, i will talk quite openly about anime, but other times i wont.

Thankfully my little sister is an anime fan too, so i always have someone to talk about it with IRL.

P.S.

Be proud of who you are and your hobbies.

Im proud i love anime, and anyone who doesn't like me for it can kiss my ass :P.

Well, if you care more about what people think of you than Anime, then that's your prob.

I'm...not very "vocal", since I literally don't talk to people very much.
But if it's about how much I "show" my love for it, very vocal. Considering I'm always in my room doing Anime related things, and at school I even had my headphones with Anime music at about 80% volume while reading some manga and/or looking for Anime pics on my Ipod.

I agree with you on this, I'd be the very same, I have 4 close friends who know that anime is my thing,
to everyone else including new people I meet in work etc , I would never bring it up unless
I've some idea that they like anime too. There are still people walking around saying "uhh anime? you mean
cartoons right, hey like, thats just for kids"

I'd like to believe that i'm pretty vocal about my love of anime/manga. I mean, if I hear someone talking about it (even whispering about it) i'll jump in on that convo like I was there the entire time because I was the one who started it.

Wear your pride like a badge my friend and if someone doesn't like it well, they can take their opinions and have a party with themselves.

I don't talk much so I don't go around telling random people "Did you know I like anime!?" or anything but I don't hide it. I am vocal with it only in that I wear shirts from it because I just don't talk and I don't really buy too much anime merchandise. If I were ever asked I would have no problem saying I like it. I don't know why I would.

Yeah, I don't go around telling everyone how much I love anime, but almost everyone that knows me knows that I am into that stuff. I don't really care what other people may think about it, but I know they wouldn't just stop talking to me or something if they find out I love anime/manga.

I think it has become more 'accepted' lately here in my country (Costa Rica), I see a lot of people watching some mainstream series, some may even adventure more and watch more less-known shows. Others just accept the fact that it isn't 'kids' stuff, even if they don't watch it.

Anyways, I won't change or hide who I really am just fo fit in a group, or just because I am afraid of what others may think of me. I like the way I am and that should be the same for everyone.

I wouldn't say I'm vocal because I don't randomly go around telling people I love anime, but I don't hide the fact that I do either. If someone asks me what I'm doing or what I did a certain time and I happened to be watching anime or reading manga, then I tell them exactly that. Doesn't really matter to me what they think or if the only anime they know about is hentai. It's not like my life would change drastically if they think I'm some kind of weird pervert.. *shrug*

I tell anyone, even if they don't like anime, that I'm a die-hard anime fan and no one cares, they especially wouldn't care if they had no idea what anime is, so what's to worry about? Who makes fun of people who watch cartoons when most people do even if it isn't anime? Last Christmas, everyone went to see Frozen and who doesn't watch Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball or Regular Show? Also, I don't think it's worth getting to know someone who makes fun of an innocent hobby of yours and why would you assume people would judge you for watching anime anyway? Who are you hanging out with? They sound like mean people.

If anyone asks what my hobbies are, I just mention anime, there's not much advice I can give you. I never usually have to wait for anyone ask because I listen to Kpop, Jrock, have Monkey D. Luffy as a key-ring on my bag and often wear anime inspired clothing that I, sometimes, buy from this website. People just guess. I have no shame for something I love so much, you should be the same

Only my family and friends know. I really don't tell much people about the fact that I love anime.

I tell others only when they ask, really. If I was vocal about it, I'd be even more socially rejected than I already am. LOL

Most people know (I'm pretty blatant about my interests on FB. Also carry around anime/game related pins and key chains on my bag). However, I won't talk about it unless I know you are an anime fan or you ask about it. Even then, I tend to gauge the person before I gush about my fandom to him or her. Sure, that person may be an anime fan who likes Bleach/Naruto/One piece/shounen stuff, but that same person may not appreciate when I gush about Mushishi/Time of Eve/slice of life/shoujo. It just depends on how deep they are into the fandom and where their interests lie.

All in all...need to pry out their interests and find out their waifus/husbandos *cough*

So I'm not exactly vocal about my love for anime, but I don't hide it.

I'm quiet about it unless someone brings it up first. At that point I will go into full-on preaching mode.

I'm the same way lol. It'd be weird if I went around telling people every single one of my hobbies. That's like telling people "I have a folder filled with pictures of different kinds of birds on my computer", how has your opinion of me as a person changed?
