I don't really talk much period, but most of my friends like anime as well. For the ones that don't, I don't really mention it. There are also certain family members that I never discuss it with. Outside of family and friends, I don't talk about it unless someone else brings it up first or seems to have an interest in it.

Depends on the shows. Almost everyone knows i watch anime and that i am an avid fan of anime; but i almost rarely talk about it with other people unless i know they enjoy it as well.

I don't talk about it; mostly due to the misconception of what anime is.

Because of recent and past media exposure, most non anime watchers, or people ignorant to the cultures of other countries, believe anime to be "hentai" and "cartoon porn". While hentai is eroge in nature, people often generalize all anime to be eroge; mostly because of the ignorance of the mass media and the common news viewer and their inability to separate two different types of animations.

Depending on the situation and the group of people i am with, i will talk quite openly about anime, but other times i wont.

Thankfully my little sister is an anime fan too, so i always have someone to talk about it with IRL.

P.S.

Be proud of who you are and your hobbies.

Im proud i love anime, and anyone who doesn't like me for it can kiss my ass :P.

I ditto this and this is great. I totally agree (although I don't have a little sister)

It makes me sad when people hide the fact that they don't like anime. Whenever i talk to people I always find myself referenceing an anime, whether they watch it or not. More often than not I send them into a nostalgia trip about toonami and Dragon Ball Z lol. I've discovered that most people do like anime but don't watch it as much anymore because they're just cartoons to anyone that isn't an actual fan

Everyone knows about it! If they ask me my hobbies or what I want to do once I get older, I tell them. I either want to open an anime shop or a small coffee/anime shop.

People who are self-conscious about themselves confuse me.

I'm not very vocal about my love of anime outside of like the internet and stuff and even then it's under a synonym...I just don't feel I would be as accepted in the real world if I went around telling people I loved it. Heck I don't even have any friends who are into anime!

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything with this I guess I'm looking for a bit of advice/see how other people embrace their hobby?

I'm just like you, no one knows besides past gf's but even then I wouldn't let them know right away. I made the mistake of letting a coworker know and he proceeded to not stop talking about anime all the time. Got real annoying and embarrassing real quick. So now I just keep it to myself or the Internet. Now when people ask me what my hobbies are I just reply with cars and computers.

I tell anyone, even if they don't like anime, that I'm a die-hard anime fan and no one cares, they especially wouldn't care if they had no idea what anime is, so what's to worry about? Who makes fun of people who watch cartoons when most people do even if it isn't anime? Last Christmas, everyone went to see Frozen and who doesn't watch Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball or Regular Show? Also, I don't think it's worth getting to know someone who makes fun of an innocent hobby of yours and why would you assume people would judge you for watching anime anyway? Who are you hanging out with? They sound like mean people.

If anyone asks what my hobbies are, I just mention anime, there's not much advice I can give you. I never usually have to wait for anyone ask because I listen to Kpop, Jrock, have Monkey D. Luffy as a key-ring on my bag and often wear anime inspired clothing that I, sometimes, buy from this website. People just guess. I have no shame for something I love so much, you should be the same :)

I'm pretty much the same way in my interest in anime.

im somewhat vocal about my love of anime, however i never start the conversation with it unless its with one of my close friends who is also really into anime. but with a regular person i just met or am acquainted with,I normally i just slide it right in the conversation we have, usually with, "oh, that reminds me of this one anime i once watched called ____, its about _____ and there is a scene that ______. Its pretty good if you are into _____ or in the mood for ______" and that usually can get the conversation geared more toward anime, which i can be more open about.

I will usually test the water but casually saying something about attack on titan or another really popular anime and if they react then the coast is clear, then I'll start talking about anime

Actually since most of the people I talk to aren't artists, I bring it up nonchalantly as a serious art subject, and they just totally buy into it without any prejudice whatsoever.

I mean, producing something from memory/nothing (the top manga artists don't use references except for environments), and doing realistic art are two mostly different skill sets.

I also tell people that manga and anime are cheaper to bring unique ideas across, and so people have more guts about doing so. It's way cheaper to produce something as an anime or a manga than as a full film. That's why there are so many genres.

I also point out that a lot of modern films are just swiping anime plots left and right nowadays.

There, your guns are now loaded with logistical facts that make anime and manga perfectly fine obsessions. Go forth and conquer!

Around my family: I usually talk about it around my 2 older sisters, but that's it
Around strangers: Nope.
Around friends: Nope
Around Otakus: Yep.
I mostly do it when I'm talking to myself...
