I personally love Anime. All of my friends know it on some level. I know very few friends in person that have not watched something. But I would say that Anime can have levels of depth to the same as any acted real life movie if you can get into the plot and story line.

If someone has trouble looking at it as something that prevents the suspension of belief before getting into the story. Then they probably have a large amount of stigma they would need to suspend to enjoy it at the same level many of us do casually with out effort.

In my case I am actually actively trying to find an anime that I can have my mom watch to give Anime a serious try. She constantly has this stigma where she feels that it is childish before the story ever develops. She isn't into gory and gaudy content. So I need to find the right plot hook that will get her emotionally invested to see it all the way to the finish. Which in my opinion I find really saddening. There is some really amazing shows that she won't enjoy that I loved. But, I'm not going to give up. If I can corrupt her ways of hating Anime even just a little. It will be a win for me.

So, I will say this toby... As I would say it to anyone else. You are 26 years old. If you enjoy Anime don't be afraid to say so. You might introduce someone to something new they never knew about and fall in love with Anime like many of us. If they don't get it. Then either it wasn't the right type of content for their personality or they just won't get into it. Again, there is nothing wrong with it. There is nothing wrong with being different. But in my own opinion I think it is wrong to feel you need to hide your love of Anime from friends and family.

I don't hide that I am a fan, but I am not exactly proclaiming it at the top of my lungs either.

Worse I have is a messenger bag and key chain with Fairy Tails logo on it for when I am out and about. Only things that would get noticed outside of my room.

In my room it is a bit more noticeable with my 2 SAO wall scrolls and well over 100 manga volumes and my Kantoku artwork calendar.

Pretty much if someone asks me about any of it, I will talk about it, but I will not go and start a conversation with a random person trying to see if they are a fan of it or not.

This is how I am too. I have friends into many different things. Some like anime, some don't; so I tailor what I talk about to who I am around.

I'm not very vocal about it because it's something I enjoy by myself. I kind of like it that way. But if someone were to ask me, or I knew that we had this particular thing in common, I would say something.

I don't talk about it much around my parents, though I can get a few words in about it with my sister. My older brother would only listen out of kindness.

I have a few friends that enjoy anime, but I've a wider view of anime then them, so I can't talk about it all.

I enjoy bring it up a little bit at work because everyone there is so clueless about the world and I like to see their reactions to it.

I'm slowly making myself at home here on Crunchyroll, finding threads to talk about all the animes I love.

I think people just know without me having to tell them...

I watch anime everywhere I go, now that I've got a hand-me-down iPhone 4. And I read manga everywhere too...

I get comments like, "What a little kid"....

I don't hide it at all. I tend to start to fangirl with one of my friends about shows sometimes. XD I don't really care if people judge me for it, since there are things people fangirl over that I don't understand either.

In real life, I make subtle hints with people to find out if they like anime. It is actually pretty easy to find people who like it even if they r not vocal about it without being vocal urself.
