The Oculus Rift is currently one of the biggest pieces of tech being discussed in the PC gaming world. It's undoubtedly cool and has the potential to change the way PC gamers play at a fundamental level.

But, what about us console gamers? Do you think the advent of VR headgear is going to have an equal/bigger impact on the home console market? Is it going to become the standard for console gamers or will we still be having multiplayer split-screen fun? Will it be like motion controls or Kinect, i.e. fun to have, but not the gold standard?

VR will definitely be the next big thing in gaming for both console gamers and computer gamers. The amount of immersion it offers is going to be amazing because you won't be limited to a view that ends at the edges of your screen(s). The game world will be all around you as you look left, right, up, and down. The only issue I could see stopping VR from becoming a standard would be the price of such a device, especially on the console side of things.

If the price isn't reasonable enough in relation to the cost of a console there may be too little adoption for such a device. This is potentially true even on computers where gamers often can spend hundreds, if not thousands, on peripherals (gaming keyboards and mice get expensive, not to mention if you want multiple displays, etc.). It may be that people just opt out of purchasing a TV or monitor for their gaming machine and instead go directly for a VR headset, but this option suffers potential setbacks of its own (such as a lack of an external display for multiple viewers, etc.).

That is going to be so hyped up that it will become a new genre unto itself. Its going to be freaking awesome! Especially on a VR headset.
