I have noticed that this problem is most commonly experienced when using a web browser to view the episodes. Oddly enough, I have never once has a problem when using my iPhone app (watch it start just because I said this) but do experience the problem regularly when I watch on my computer.

One reason for this is that the Flash streams for web browsers and the streams for devices are served by two different content delivery networks.

The app is completly unusable on my PS3. When I stream from my android phone to chromecast I have to watch ads, even though I am a premium member, and I still doesn't play more than 2 minutes before buffering. If I can't use chromecast or PS3 I will be cancelling my sub. I have been a member since CR started, and the PS3 app problem is new. I took a break from anime for a few months and now I can't even watch my shows.

I use Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and Amazon Prime streaming. All in HD, and all work perfects. Crunchyroll app on Android or PS3, not so much.

Too me it seem like the content on the specific server group is most likely corrupt in some parts.

Ive noticed that on specific epis any time I try to watch them a specific part might cause that... time and time again.
But if I were to skip past it it will play fine. Time of day doesnt seem to effect it and other play fine.

Not to mention everytime I can pin down its a bandwidth issue it a buffer, shutter, or black screen not cutting to a new video.
That seems like the streaming software thinks it getting a EOF so its like NEXT EPI!

I had to go finish Outbreak Company on Hulu a couple of days ago because it would buffer every 5-10 seconds. And that's a series from just last year. The problem appears to be getting worse. And this was on PS3, Xbox, and the iPhone apps.

This isn't the exact problem of the episode ending prematurely, but the (probably related) one of the streaming bandwidth just being too low somehow.
I recently tried disabling the various acceleration features of my network card, these are things like the Checksum Offload options. I haven't had a good test of it yet, but so far it seems to have improved video streaming for me in general. While it means that network traffic uses more CPU, it also means that problems with the network hardware can cause less interference.

If you want to make this change you're on your own, it's done in the Windows Device Manager, but the exact details depends on the actual network card/chipset in the computer.

I haven't been able to watch anything for the past few days because of constant buffering. I have a 100 Mbps line from Comcast and I haven't had trouble in the past. I put in a support ticket so hopefully they get back on track soon. Taking 50 minutes to watch an episode of Naruto kind of sucks.

5.4.3.
Acknowledgement (3)
The client or the server MUST send an acknowledgment to the peer
after receiving bytes equal to the window size. The window size is
the maximum number of bytes that the sender sends without receiving
acknowledgment from the receiver. This message specifies the
sequence number, which is the number of the bytes received so far.

-RTMP Protocoll Specification; Source: http://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/rtmp/pdf/rtmp_specification_1.0.pdf

By inspecting the stream via Wireshark, this window size seems to be a fixed value set at 1 MiB for CR, for all qualities and no matter the latency.
Somehow this magic number seems too small for 1080p, and too large for SD to me.

LOL this is turning into one big joke...

I also have issues with stuck episodes but only on one of my PCs. It's a bit less powerful (AMD triple core) but with a GTX 460 card. Problem went away when I resorted to using an Intel i5-2500K gaming rig......... It could be sloppy coding that cause huge usage spikes who knows. Buggy software, bad servers and-or data.... hahaha who wants to run a betting pool on which one(s)
