The dub/sub thing will rage on despite advancement of the technology giving fans to watch the anime in both option. Why is it still raging on?

In order of unwillingess to die.

1. subs vs. dubs is the one that never dies. Ever since dubs were first created, which, means since the first anime fans came into existence outside of Japan, this debate has raged on.

2. the purchasers vs. the pirates debate (legal vs. illegal sources). Originally, it was about who bought original source material, or who got their stuff only from funimation/manga(the distributor)/rightstuf/etc. or worse, only watched what made it to TV, (you can guess who was winning then). Now the tides have turned, and it's the legit viewers that are puffed up on "supporting the artists" etc....

3. Unwanted recommendations/ list-share. Thank you for foisting your preferences and lists on me when I never asked. Or turning a discussion of anime in general into the pissing contest of ages...

4 a and b. the new anime vs. old anime debate is relatively new, and I think has some merit...

a. Actually, one of the funniest parts to that is that the "downfall of the anime industry" was first started to be predicted around the late 90's into 2000. 15 years later... we're still talking about the "end times" for anime both home and abroad, and people still talk about the "need to support" it by propping it up...

b. On the other hand, the complaints about quality started around the same time, as well as forecasting doom and gloom through the proliferation of many series with low quality cookie cutter plots and characters.... (To me they were right about the quality and the repetition, but people really have no taste, or would rather experience more of the same, regardless of quality).

But what all of these really have in common is the desire for one anime fan to exert a sense of superiority over all other fans.

You know the really funny thing about the subs vs. dubs debate? Unless you're competent enough in Japanese to not need subs you're really better off with the dub. Why? Because you won't miss minor details which quickly go by, thereby preventing you from having to watch an episode two or three times just to take everything in. You think you can, I understand, but you can't. When you're looking at that little space at the bottom of the screen to see what's being said (and especially if dialogue is going quickly) you're not looking at what's happening above that space as attentively as you could be. You're not looking at the background as thoroughly as you can with the dub.

Subs' big advantage is that you get the new stuff while it's still being produced, and also you can get subs cheaper than dubs in a lot of cases. One advantage they're alleged to have (but don't actually have) is that they're "closer to the original intent". No. You have no more guarantee that the sub is accurately conveying the original meaning than a spoken translation. None whatsoever. That's a false "advantage".

Now watch this. Just see what happens next. Let's see if this battle can end.

Sub vs dub by far; It honestly gives me a headache and I see it everywhere. Make it stop. Liking sub OR dub is fine, but it really gets on my nerves when someone completely makes fun of all English dubs as if they're all lumped into the category of being universally bad.

Dubs vs. Subs, people can't stop criticizing dubs, come one in many the dubs the voice actors put a lot of effort in order to make the dub great.
