Seoul, the largest and biggest home of entertainment in S.Korea, also has the largest and most profitable plastic surgery sectors in the world, with the last pre-existing data citing 1 in 5 or 1in 4 Koreans in Seoul having undergone at least one plastic surgery procedure; this number is much likely much higher in entertainment and related business which stress physical attractiveness.

Too much of their entertainment revolves around adapting Hollywood shows and Japanese content (anime, manga, and game shows), and the music industry again takes much from American music (specifically, hip hop) whilst disparaging those cultures generally in their social attitudes, and from (again) Japanese music.

Don't get me wrong, the Government spends exorbitant amounts of money in the entertainment sector in Korea, in some years they will produce a much larger amount of original content, but for now, as is what happens with most rapid industrialized/younger developed societies, they don't produce much original work, and adaptations and works influenced by outside sources tend to not add their own flair. (See Japanese Ska for a musical genre based on Jamaican ska/2-tone and American punk, but adds its own kind of flair into the music).

Anyways, I'm not making a personal judgment on 'natural' beauty or plastic surgery, but in general I tend to prefer Japanese oriented stuff. For women, it doesn't really matter, id probably say Japanese, for the same reasons I would say Dutch, German, or any English speaking country (can speak the language, lived there/worked there, understand the culture the most, etc).

SOMEONE FINALLY UNDERSTANDS!!!!! I'm glad there are people in this world that are not ignorant to Asian culture and everything else happening.

Well, I'm on any Japanese oriented board, and most people are, simply because they enjoy the culture. Japan has one of the most flexible and enjoyable cultures and subcultures in the world. Not only have they had thousands of years of developments in their country most others lack, and have for the most part, been as rich and developed as most countries in Europe, the influences from America after the world war in the late 40s and 50s, they picked up this ability to borrow and be influenced by the world around them. In fact, their ability to turn around from a war based, imperialist society and culture, into a peaceful and technological one, was rapid. Hosting the 1964 Olympics showcased this; no other country has been able to develop like this

Which is why most people enjoy Japanese things. They may not know specifically the reasons why Japanese culture is so enjoyable like you or me, but it's still the reason why. Their pop music, highly influential in he development of K-Pop, was unlike any other, with interesting synth riffs, for some reason, tons of guitar solos, and influences from 1950s American doo-wop, all the way to Tango and other musical styles. Outside of Europe, they have a large amount of Metal bands, outside of the US and Jamaica, a massive amount of Ska bands and punk bands. In the 1970s, you could walk into a smokey underground punk bar in the UK, but similar establishments popped up in no other countries outside of the anglosphere, except for Japan. The development of Manga and different genres grew to the point where most people in contemporary Japan read manga; what we call 'comics' here, a relatively niche hobby outside of Hollywood blockbusters, is massive in Japan, their animation industry is also very large (although late night anime fans in Japan are not as populous as Manga fans in general are).

Most countries tend to be creator cultures, or cultures that are influenced by these cultures. Japan and the US are two notable examples in the amount of entertainment they churn out on a daily basis, whilst countries like Canada and South Korea tend to borrow these influences more. Of course, Korea and Canafa have some well known movies and shows that are entirely their own, Korea isn't incapable of making their own things, just that praise oriented towards much of Korea has to be tempered by the fact that entertainment in other countries were highly influential in those Korean works in the first place.

But most people are simply unaware of the plastic surgery sector in South Korea and other things like that. I've had the massive benefit of being able to travel and live in North America and Asia/Japan so these things are more apparent to me. Korea has recently become a big power, rapidly industrializing since the Korean War in the 50s, but they've only had a few decades to use this new wealth and power in new areas, when the US and Japan have had much longer. The amount of money the Korean Government spends on entertainment will, over the years, start producing more influential works of their own, but not too much at the moment

Blah blah blah, I tend to rant too much, sorry!
