Like only an otaku? No. My girlfriend is like me, an all around nerd. Anime, gaming and the like.

No, my (ex) boyfriend liked video games rather than anime

I thought it was just like any other ordinary relationship..? Hmm.

These kids just like to think that it is somehow special just like first kisses and such. Most will learn eventually through experience...others are kind of questionable to be honest.

Damn. You just made me feel older.

zzzZzzz I'm freaking old now.

Being on here makes me feel old all the time. Just have to spread that feeling around sometimes.

I'll take that as an apology. Apology accepted.

No. I haven't. I'm not against it though. I mean, I've had girls who would watch anime with me and they'd have a handful of animes they really enjoyed but I'd never consider them an otaku. I don't consider myself one either though. Nor would I want to be. Anime isn't who I am, it doesn't control my life. It's just a hobby I enjoy.

I don't think I've ever dated anyone, period.

I wouldn't say that liking anime would be a necessity, but if she's weirded out or outright disgusted by it, then it's a no. I believe that, ideally, people with similar interests have better chances of getting together.

Sadly, it can be hard fo spot a fellow anime-lover outside of the internet. Maybe there's your college anime club, but aside from that...

Oh, and advice I heard from some random guy: Don't try to hit on anyone at a convention, you can't say for sure how old people are most of the time, especially with cosplays.

no... but now that I think about it, I sure wouldn't mind someone to talk about anime with every now and then rather than hiding the fact or being dumped for it that one time.. jesus, anyways, Otaku girls hit me up, this is e-harmony right?

If they were a genuine otaku you'd probably have a tough time finding one to date, or even dating them, since an otaku is someone so obsessed with their hobby it affects their ability to socialise. In other words they usually reach bum status and prioritise their interest above all else. I'm not sure I'd want to date someone in that condition.

I admire dedication to your interests and pursuing them, but engaging in them non-stop 24/7 and fearing stepping outside isn't an admirable state by any means, nor something to be proud of. They will generally lock themselves in the house at all times and engage only in stuff like surfing the internet, watching anime, or playing games.

Most people put it in the same class as 'nerd' but that's as silly as saying you have insomnia because you have the odd rough night a few times a month. Anyone who's seen Welcome To The N.H.K will know what I'm talking about, and being proud of ending up in the state the MC does would be rather strange.

Liking anime or nerdy stuff does not make you an otaku, it makes you a normal person with niche interests. It's kind of odd that westerners have taken something with such a negative and serious meaning and turned it into something positive. It's not a word to be taken lightly. Having a properly otaku partner would probably be an incredibly short lived relationship, assuming you somehow almost magically found one in the first place.

If I had a girlfriend would I like her to be interested in video games and anime? Sure, but I wouldn't want her to have hit rock bottom, either. Claiming your mental state has deteriorated to the point that it rejects the outside world and other people isn't a positive thing.

Well.. my last attempt was more into the K pop culture than Anime... it was fun, but i havent dated a girl who is more on the Anime fan based side. i think it be a total blast to go out with a girl who had the same interest .

It would be nice just to met one in person for me but if I happen to be interested in them I definitely would. I would like to share that side of myself with someone who was already into it then me try to get them interested.
