i've already decided to go to Spain and Australia for a surfing trip with my best friend from my unit.

With that said what do you guys know about how the locals treat outsiders in Spain and Australia?

I visited Australia a bit more than 10 years ago for about two weeks. It was great. I don't know about now, but then, the exchange rate was quite favorable for Americans, and I recall awesome seafood platters (Pacific lobster, scallops, shrimp and so on) coming in under US$30. I was mostly with a tour group though. I recall a classmate had a story of visiting Australia and getting into some "debate" with the locals in some bar. I don't remember any details anymore except him mentioning he and his opponent eying each other, heads bobbing this way and that, with apparently the other guy trying to position himself for a head-butt to break my classmate's nose. I imagine that like in many other places as well, if one goes looking for trouble, one will find it.
