I just saw this on twitter:
https://twitter.com/Crunchyroll/status/490181006058479617

And apparently, the Q&A session were on reddit as well:
http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2b26ou/im_kun_gao_the_cofounder_and_ceo_of_crunchyroll/

I haven't read all the posts yet but this was quite interesting imo so far.

Thoughts on this?

I read the old one. From what I'm seeing there, this is more or less a rehashing of that. Though, the questions aren't as grilling as they were, and Kun's support mods aren't in play.

I thought it was useless. Mostly the questions he answered was basically what Crunchyroll was and what they do. No important questions in my opinion were really answered. Some questions he answered was questions about his life story like what's his favorite anime, even though you can find it out on his profile here. I asked about the Roku app, but no one replied. :(

But I found the thing HorribleSubs posted was funny about his name. That was a good chuckle.

Also when I read that he posted it's over 9000, I kinda wanted to slap him, because I thought the question was really serious. I also wanted to know how many premium members there are now based on the new upgrades here. Atleast he reanswered it with a more professional response.

The guy seemed nice, but he seemed pretty vauge on some questions. I really wished he put more effort into the HTML5 player. I'm getting a little annoyed with CR's current player because it doesn't buffer and it's either functional or you have to reloading a trillion times so it can get its shit together.

This is exactly what he said to the question:

When will Crunchyroll get html5 video player instead of the current flash based player?

we have contractual obligations with content partners wrt content security, which is not a capability provided by html5

I just don't buy that because someone pointed out that Netlfix is doing something that CR could do. This user made a good point:

Really? Because Netflix seems to be doing really well with Media Source Extensions and the Web Cryptography API to solve this issue.
You might want to take another look at the state of HTML5 video support because it's changed quite a bit recently. You could totally wipe out the requirement for Flash and keep your security now that Safari in Yosemite, Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1 and ChromeOS support it with Firefox coming soon last I saw.
Seriously, drop Flash, it gives me an extra three whole hours of 1080p video playback on battery and does not cause insane fan spin ups as it tries to decode everything on the CPU and burn my lap.
A blog post for further reading:http://techblog.netflix.com/2014/06/html5-video-in-safari-on-os-x-yosemite.html

So overall, I was disappointed with the Q&A.

Couldn't the CR guy just made a AMA in the CR forums? I don't see the point of Reddit.

someone asked about CR looking into acquiring digital music for anime soundtracks / !!

man i would be ALL up on that O_O. the music's the reason i got into anime in the first place.

well the guy said that would be very hard to do, but it isn't an impossibility.. if there was enough interest...

Social media, face saving, less collateral damage from the community, off-site grillage. There are a lot of excuse. Try to think of a clever one.

You mean like having tracks available for digital streaming, sort of like Spotify or Pandora, only specifically for CR titles' OSTs?

not streaming, but like buying music like you would from amazon or itunes. idk about specific titles. Here's what they said:

You've been expanding recently, with the recent addition of the Manga store, but I was wondering about the possibility of a digital music store as well?
A place where we could purchase Opening/Ending & Soundtracks used in various anime series. Sure there are places you can get a physical copy from places like CDJapan, but currently there isn't a service that provides a digital services in the west aside from the odd release on iTunes. So is doing something like something you'd be looking into doing?

CEO answer:

music rights are very challenging to clear for digital. if there is enough fan demand then we would explore more in this area
