Usually I have a lot of trouble choosing a new anime. Either I take to the internet to find the up and coming anime on one of the chart websites which lists the names, a short description, and some of the genre, or I take the plunge and choose something completely random.

The only problem is that the completely random choices tend to be really hit or miss, and I can absolutely use the up-and-coming charts, but it doesn't help with choosing new anime which I haven't seen from crunchyroll's frankly massive library.

To be blunt, seeing what genre the anime mainly belongs to (ecchi, shonen, shoujo, slice of life etc) helps me pick which ones I want to watch, and it would be quicker to have an indication on the full list than having to go searching for individual genres in the apps. Some anime sort of swims between genres as well (for instance being both a comedy, but also an ecchi) and seeing a short list of them helps pick out an anime suited for my mood/interests at the moment.

I certainly could go from A-Z and just search up every single anime's name in Anime News Network or something similar, but it would take a very long time.

Use, who have recently partnered with crunchyroll, do a search by genre on their site, and make sure you add watch online to your search, here is an example, all of those anime can be watched via crunchyroll, they also have suggestions/recommendations etc. That way if there is an anime you love, you can find out what is similar and see if its available on crunchyroll, the reviews are also pretty in depth.
