My parents say that I should learn Chinese because it's a popular language to learn
and they say in China they offer jobs there.

My parents say that Japanese is not really a popular language and in Japan they don't offer
so many jobs.

And I both told them I would like to learn Chinese but I want to learn Japanese too.

Then they said "Learn Chinese"

So yeah~Onii-tan

There's more Chinese people than Japanese. If you learn Mandarin you'll be able to communicate with about 1/3 of the world's population.

If you're looking into the future, look further into Chinese languages. Not saying Japanese is useless, but learning a Chinese language is more useful.

Also, learning Chinese first will help you learn Japanese later on down the road. Japanese writing uses a lot of Chinese characters and by learning Chinese, you'll get an early start on learning kanji.

I'd say learn Chinese first because of the amount of people that speak it.

You could learn traditional Chinese and kill two birds with one stone because kanji is made up of traditional Chinese characters.

Chinese will have more use in the future, since the chinese are quickly expanding into other countries. Alot of business is done with china, so if you were in the business industry, i would suggest chinese. But if its from my personal desire and something i really want to do, i would choose japanese.

Its up to you.

What will be more useful in your life?

Dont learn a language to just learn it and never use it. Learn a language you will eventually use to help broaden your horizons and help you along your journey in life.

Learn Chinese because China is going to be the next big super power in the world. Japan, on the other hand, is just America's lap-dog.

This is a pretty personal thread and got reported, but it's also got some good responses that others might appreciate, so I've moved it to the Culture section, where it seems more appropriate than General, I hope.
