If you had to pick one show to prove to someone that anime can be a higher form of art, what show would you pick and why?

Zankyou No Terror is the first one to come to mind, but that's just been one I've been thinking about a lot lately. Now and Then Here and There could also fit, being a very good look into the human condition while deconstructing a number of other anime troups.

Like how people consider live action movies and television shows as real art, and most common people see animation as just kinda mindless entertainment.

For a very deep emotional plot I would have to say either NANA or Hunter x Hunter.

For beautiful animation that I would consider a form of art, Say "I love you" I thought the animation was beautifully done and the scenery always looked astonishing, better than a painting in a museum.

Mushishi, and almost anything outside of the common Shonen/Shojo tropes that's not porn (not because these are bad, but because people will generally not take them seriously at face value).

With the symbolism in it i believe, despite the criticism it got because of "fanservice" elements it had", Kill La Kill is actually is actually a higher form of art then just a tv anime show. I believe Kill La Kill is like a well written poem that will induce new feelings everytime you watch it without loss of value.

If you're trying to convert a highbrow film aficionado Mamoru Oshii is a good place to consider starting.

Especially Angel's Egg, because of everything I could mention more people should at least know that this one exists.

(Just be ready to feel like this for a couple days after seeing it.)

I would pick the Ghost In The Shell Movie because Roger Ebert, a very well-known and respected film critic, gave it a favorable review:

Ebert did seemed to know what he was talking about.
