It's a source of scientific debate as well as used within fiction but it's fairly evident that the population growth can't sustain itself.

Would you as an individual cull a percentage of the population so that the other percentage can prosper, if so why and how would you do it?

Dr Eric Pianka advocated (some say jokingly I think he was serious) the culling of 90% of the population using airbourne ebola. A very cruel method because of the 3 days of agonising suffering.

If anyone watches the TV show Utopia

Me personally? I wouldn't do it, but it's not because I care about the deaths etc, I just don't care about future generations. If humanity is meant to die out and suffer so be it.

I am sure there are other sources that have used this as a plot, I don't know of any Animes but feel free to post one if you wish.

A better option would be to limit breeding rates. Like China does. Of course, which countries should do this is also an important question that needs to be factored in...

I for one DO care about the future... Provided that I'm there to experience it.

Exterminate all humans!!!! we are a virus that is slowly killing mother earth! lol jk but I'm not really sure, to tell you the truth.

no need for me to personally eradicate them, they will destroy themselves. resources are not infinite, somebody has to die.

one day, when this earth reach beyond sustainable human population growth, it'll be a cool thing to not want to have biological children, and people who do want biological children will be seen as the odd ones instead, which is a good thing because they must really want it if they're willing to go against societal pressures [of the future]. it would mean only good caring parents will be parents, instead of bad parents who become parents because they've been forced by society that it's normal to have the "nuclear family" type of thing and odd to be childless (present day).

Yes I would but I fear the ones who die first will be the disabled and not the evil.

Yes I think there are too many mouth-breathing, idiots on this planet, so this planet needs fewer and NOT more MORE people.

Possibly, it all depends on how you do it though. Like JollyClaret, sterilization would be one of the most humane options. Breeding rates are also a good idea, although seeing as how China has most of the world's population, not a very effective one. However an airborne plague is a little too risky and there is a chance you could kill off everyone, albiet a slim one. Also, it is hard to pertain to the standards of evil and idiots, so that isn't a very good judgement method.

If I had to choose, which I would rather not, I would probably go with sterilization, just so people could continue to fufill there own dreams and desires, but if that didn't work there is always war

But in all honesty, I hope we figure out how to make lunar colonies and/or the Mars mission(s) succeeds. Then we can just ship people off to space, and have them live up there. That would be my prefered option, although currently it is not based in reality.

Don't worry there already been talk about this amongst the rich political elite. They are not talking about into culling the population, but they do want a say who can and can't breed. Of course this is be justified in the name of global warming.

Speaking from an objective(?) perspective,
instead of culling a certain percentage,
it would be better to (as aforementioned) limit the rates at which humans repopulate.
(or, more effectively, try getting people to actually think before having sex)
Also, though it's a bit cruel, cutting off the aid given to handicapped and those with terminal/hereditary illnesses would help.

I personally don't want to cull the population, since,
1. that's just cruel,
and 2. it'll create mass pandemonium within the population,
but if the only alternative is to rally the entire globe in a joined effort to expand our habitats to other livable planets light years away (the impossible),
then I think culling would be the best option...

7 billion is too many people, putting in breeding restrictions won't lower that number it will just make it grow a bit slower.

From Utopia

You know the person who had the greatest positive impact on the environment of this planet? Genghis Khan, because he massacred 40 million people. There was no one to farm the land, forests grew back, carbon was dragged out of the atmosphere. And had this monster not existed, there'd be another billion of us today, jostling for space on this dying planet.

No need, with climate change, superstorms and such and the continuing production CO2; we're well on the way already.
