Depends on the anime. For the most part animes I watch can do with or without. But sometimes you have tohave someone telling you what's happening or what's happened to get the whole thing. I personally love Pokemon's narrator! XD XD XDD <3

if it's for comedy anime,,they are useful...

i like it when the characters themselves are narrating, sorta giving their insight on things, whether it's for dramatic or comedic effect.

Some aren't as stated above the ones for comedy are usually good.

It's best for comedy animes.
Though when an anime does have a narrator, there shouldn't be a need for stupid recap episodes. -__-

Think about it:
You're watching a good anime, the last episode left you at a cliff hanger, your waiting in anticipation for this new episode to find out what happened after the cliff hanger, and than suddenly...bam...
Clips from old episodes throughout the entire "new" episode...
-__-
Seriously...who the hell starts watching an Anime at the half-way point? -__-
Now you have to wait even longer for the conclusion of that evil cliff hanger. D<

most the ones in Gundam are good and somewhat needed as they explain other in world facts that necessity to understand the story and would not be known otherwise.
most other shows i seen dont really need them.
but im one of the few ppl who likes recap episodes(as long as its only one) and the 1/2 point of a show and the Narrators is very needed for them

The guy in Hayate no Gotoku makes it interesting, since the characters and him actually interact.

When it's done right, I love for there to be narration. Usually it's the main character who you hear speaking so it feels like you're getting a peek into their subconcious and I feel that makes it easier to relate to them depending on the situations.

I was watching this anime, 'Hayate no Gotoku' and there was a narrator who (tried to sound like some kinda of James Bond or Indiana Jones) spoke in every episode...heck, he even turned out to be the "murderer" in one filler episode and the characters were refering to him as "the voice in the sky".
I found the constant badgering from this "voice in the sky" very annoying all throughout the series. not only in Hayate no Gotoku but many other anime shows have "narrators" as well who constantly keep blabering when infact no one cares about what they say.

That was just my opinion on all those "voice(s) in the sky", does anyone here actually find the narrators entertaining? if so then please feel free to tell me why on earth are they entertaining and what show are they from =/

well, actually the 'voice(s) in the sky" in hayate no gotoku is part of the show... he have to be blabbering in each eps... tat's wat i tot... other narrators tat is not 'part of the show' sometimes is useful..

if they're characters then i like them..but if they're just some nameless voice coming out from nowhere, I get annoyed.
