I thought the W word was gonna be "weight", as in Anime atleast, girls take it too seriously. >.>

And I don't know how I take it, but I call myself a weaboo atleast.
Simply because I don't have the knowledge in things I love the way Otaku do, but am still equally overly obsessed and protective over them.

Never experienced being called a Weeaboo, so I wouldn't know how to react. In fact, I'd hope more people start calling me an otaku instead because that's what I'd embrace more.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Also OP. weeaboo, does not refer to someone who has a simple hobby and admires japanese culture. Weeaboo is someone who bashes their own culture, and resents anything that is not from their "god land" Japan.

an anime otaku, is someone who appreciates the japanese culture and anime, but also appreciates their own.

Weeaboo's are normally someone of non Japanese ethnicity that pretend to be Japanese and use out of context words such as "kawaii" often mispronouncing it as "kowai"

Weebs are people with an unhealthy obsession with japan, and often have very limited information on what the Japanese culture is really like.

You can appreciate the culture without being a weeb. A weeb is kind of like a waifuist (waifu extremist) who shuns anyone who does not like their waifu, and then goes on a tirade about how you are a 3DPG. They are obsessed to the point it becomes unhealthy.

i appreciate Japanese culture and i am an avid anime otaku, but i am sure as shit not a weeaboo.

If you take it as offensive, its because it refers mostly ignorant people who bash on every other culture and pretend it is a shit stain in the history of the world, unlike japan, which is perfect.

(Edit)

go to 4chan /a/ and /jp/ thats where you can find prime examples of what i just described

Weeaboo, the reason I avoid other people that watch anime, in RL. They take everything too seriously, they spaz out, they exude awkwardness.
Stubborn as a mule and easily offended. Worst of all, when they use Japanese words mixed in with English sentences. Doesn't make sense because English grammar is totally different than Japanese grammar.

I wouldn't call my self a weeaboo, and I would take offense to it. But I'd just think the person calling me that is a moron. I wouldn't get all pissed off about it, I'd just simply ignore the comment and brush it off like he never even mentioned the word.

Not really cause people use the word to deride just about anyone with any level of interest in something Japanese. Just liking anime is enough to get called weeaboo by some. The word is so over used it's meaningless to me.

Languages often barrow from each other, the words are called loan words. English is full of words from other languages (e.g Latin and German), some with vastly different syntax and grammar rules.
Japanese words that have entered the english language:
Sushi
Bento
Sashimi
Honchou
Manga
Anime
Baka

Thank you. Now, instead of having to say conglomerate so very clumsily, I now know it's acceptable to say zaibatsu. Thanks.

It's not that they are easier to say, it's that it's pointless to get upset about foreign words when the language is already full of them.

Yes, but it also serves that purpose, too. At least for me. I also don't have to worry about worrying about misusing the word conglomerate, either.

The term Weaboo never had any effect on me, I was just considered a crossover black guy. But that does lead me into a realization a few days ago so anyone feel free to offer a response to what im going to say. Is there a difference in me watching anime all day and a person watching sports all day? Ill never be in some anime and those people will most likely never be on the football field playing ball. The only difference is a realize my hobby is unrealistic and a fleeting dream, them on the other hand....
