I really don't care what people think of me.
In high school I never hanged out with my friends after school hours. They did and continue doing so much stupid stuff I'm surprised they're not in jail. I prefer to be alone most of the time and spend time on one of my hobbies.

If I feel like a social outcast, I go and talk to people about random stuff like a boss. If they think I'm weird, I can go talk to others.

I would feel unique in that I am being myself, rather than trying too hard to be others and lose my character. Better be alone than in a bad company.

Plus, being alone makes it easier to think and focus without the drama.

Well, if and when I've been made to feel "like a social outcast", it was probably preceded by some socially awkward situation/confrontation, and I usually respond by going in deep thought and reflection.

Sound like a healthy response? It isn't. When you're left alone with your thoughts, you become aware of little patterns in your social life. At best you over-think things and later come to see how narrow-minded or neurotic you were. At worst, you obsess about your situation and start to identify yourself as different from others, even thinking you or your circumstances are special and unique.

Of course, I'm over simplifying it. It's not like thinking about your problems only has bad outcomes.

As far as feeling a void, I find that some degree of social interaction is necessary for me to maintain my mental health, but it's probably far less than what most people need. Being alone is easy when the alternative is even more distressing.
