Recently I've been looking into the little anime statues and figurines. More specifically any that have to deal with Fate/Zero Fate/Stay Night. My question is this, how do I know something is good quality or made from something reliable or a good company? I see quite a few things that look nice in pictures but make me wary to spend that much $$ on something I can't see in front of my face.

If it is sold on a site like say Crunchyroll etc check the reviews, if the site doesn't have a reviews system or the reviews seem a little too good to be true google for more information on the seller, forums, offsite reviews etc.

People like to complain more than they like to praise so if an item is bad then generally it will have a lot of bad reviews.

The only figurine I personally own is the Rytlock Brimstone from the Guild Wars 2 Collectors Edition. It's very well made by Happy Worker Toys, so if you are buying from them I recommend them although I am unsure if they do Anime figurines.

Don't count out Fate/Extra. They have some pretty good figures based on those games and on the cheap. In my experience, avoid figures from China, you'd just be asking for something fake and with a bad paint job. Straight from Japan seems to be the best. U.S may have some good stuff, but it would be expensive. I personally use ebay, large variety and cheaper prices, but that's based on individual sellers. Easy to sort through the prices you want. and there's a rating system. Look for words like new, sealed, authentic, etc.

If you ever use Crunchyroll to buy a figure I recommend waiting for a daily deal and you get a member discount. A lot of the stuff is expensive and they'll ask for payment right away even on pre-orders. I've only bought 1 figure from them which I'm very happy with, but I had to pay in full like a year in advance since it was a pre-order which I don't like.

There are many fake Fate figures so be careful. Again, look for keywords, the sellers rating and where they're coming from. Also, google is your friend, there are sites that review figures and give you many out of the box images so you can get a better look. Also use Youtube when you're looking into a specific figure. Excellent way to see what a figure is like and hear someone's opinion. Usually they'll talk about the quality, height, feel, smell, etc.

Are there any particular sellers on ebay you can think of off the top of your head to check out?

Um, not really, it can be pretty random. I usually look for a specific figure then form the list based on price and choose one of the cheapest ones. So for every figure I buy it's usually a different seller, lol. But you do start seeing the same sellers after a while, but there's just so many of them.

Look up "Sega Prize" figures on ebay, those are usually good, cheap, and authentic also. They have a number of Fate ones that I'm quite satisfied with. Also have a couple of Valkyria Chronicles ones.

Of course, some are easier to spot than others:
