I guess in recent times Eren from AoT. Personally i just can't stand that character type of the hot head who never follows orders and just charges into everything or who rants about things like justice. A lot of people do really like him though.

I hate that kid too.

Definitely Light Yagami. He has the qualities to be a likable guy there, but he is an egomaniac who thinks that he could wipe the world of injustices by simply killing all criminals with his Death Note. It's because he treats this like a game with the detectives that I don't like this guy.

Makoto Itou and Sekai Saionji both, yes. Also, Asuka Langley Soryu and Shinji Ikari both seem to experience this effect.

rather than weigh in on the aforementioned shinji ikari, i picked vegeta. he tends to get his ass kicked when ever he goes into battle, yet some love him. but to me he's just another scooby like krillin & yamcha.

For this season, Inaho from Aldnoah.Zero. Some people complain that he's an emotionless robot, others like the fact that he's not your typical screaming, emotional wreck of a protagonist who uses the power of friendship to win.

I normally am not a fan of characters like him, but he works for me in AoT because he's part of a trio that balances him out. You can easily separate them into mind, body, and heart, where the heart is consumed by passion and a need for vengence. And then you have that mostly morally bankrupt trio contrasted with Jean.

Rukia Kuchiki.
I hate her. One of my friends loves her. We argue all the time about it.
I think Rukia's useless and gets in the way. She's a conformist and a hypocrite.

Also, Light Yagami.
I love him. Same friend as above hates him. We argue about this as well.
She's an L fan. I don't like L. 'Nuff said.

Just thinking about it irritates me.

The most polarizing character is probably Shinji Ikari.

*quietly nods in agreement at your friend*

What are your thoughts on Soifon, then?

I don't really like Soifon that much either. But they don't show her in the show as much as Rukia so I usually just ignore her.
It's kind of hard to ignore Rukia though since they put her in all of the major fights and arcs and even fillers.

That's kind of sad, we're 0 for 3 now. Maybe we could find common ground in Yoruichi. Either way, it's all a matter of opinion. You can't be wrong for disliking Rukia and Soifon any more than I can be wrong for liking them both. To your other point, Rukia is so hard to ignore because she's the main female protagonist. They've got to work her in, and often.

Yeah, I understand that. And it didn't make me like the anime any less or anything, Bleach is actually my #1.
I like Yoruichi, so I guess we do have some common ground.

The one thing that also starts an argument when I talk about it is how I like Orihime. XD
I don't think she's as useless as people put her out to be, I mean, she's not a fighter, she's not supposed to fight. If she was they would've gave her a sword or something. She's like... the cleric, if it were an RPG.

But like you said, it's all a matter of opinion.

Heaven forbid we have one female character who isn't a badass who charges into the front lines and shreds up everything she sees among a plethora of female characters who do meet that description, right? Goodness, we can't ever have a protagonist's journey involve multiple failures and inner turmoil. Orihime is just a bad character.
