It just depends on your use of it and the different circumstances that allow for socializing.

Personally I have no experience of ever using facebook and I think most people use it to make things overly dramatic, but I have heard good things from it like being able to talk to others around the world.

Everything has positives and negatives, just depends on what you're focused on.

It's a place heavily abused by Ads and businesses (remember Myspace's collapse for that very reason...)

People seem to only play the MMORPGs more than anything else, or because the younger generation doesn't have a real "offline" social life to compare it to, they just share how bored they are with 2000 people who don't even know they exist. Our use of social media heavily changed the meaning of "Friend."

As for those businesses, it's completely unfair now since you need to pay to reach all of your own fans. Not worth the time and money, apparently Pinterest, Tumblr, IMGUR and more forum-based sites are where to hang out.

I use Facebook to talk to my friends who don't really have cellular data all the time to text, but I don't really care, nor get drama on my Facebook feed, it's all pretty much anime and game announcements.

I don't hate it, but I don't particularly like it either. I feel the same way about twitter, instagram and whatever other social media websites. I tend to avoid all of them, except for tumblr. Though I like tumblr I really hate a majority of the userbase.

I just don't understand why people are absolutely obsessed with it or any other social media website.

Twitter is worst y'know. Everyone post what they're doing there, their location, their food, if they're having sex or not, etc.

The good thing about Twitter is the immediate news that corporation or big entertainer showcases.

Honestly, I've been deleting the few "friends" I have on FB for the last month (I had around 40 before), simply because I've grown tired of having "ghost accounts" on my friends list (i.e., they may as well be ghost accounts since they never interact with me). Realistically, after I've deleted the ghost accounts/friends who really weren't friends after all, I'll have 15 friends (and finally I'll be able to say "Yes, I can name everyone on my FB").

However, to say it's utterly stupid, pointless, and what have you is also just as immature as the stigma assigned to it. FB has some interesting games that many find enjoyable (I had a FarmVille phase and I'm not sorry for it), and on top of that, it's the best neutral place for family to keep in touch. I can't very well imagine my grandmother on 4chan or Tumblr and any other sites of that sort. You may say "Well, there's cellphones," but I don't like talking on the phone unless it's about an urgent or interesting matter; it's just awkward silence otherwise. In the end, any site is what you make of it; if you make it superficial by having a myriad of "friends" and instagram-inspired pictures, then that's how it'll be.

I dislike facebook. It was a long time before my friends finally convinced me to get an account (did it in my last year of secondary school, to add my friends and keep in touch. Did not work, I am not in touch with most of them). Ultimately facebook has been a disappointment, though occasionally I can contact people through it...

Facebook makes me feel unsafe, I don't trust any of my interactions to be private, including private messages. I dislike facebook chat, because it lacks basic functionality that any chat protocol should have. It also often shows people to be available when they aren't. I miss when everyone used MSN (now Skype I suppose, but I'm not a huge fan of Skype actually. I have about 3 friends on Skype that I talk to often).

Facebook games? I'd rather play Neopets. And I don't play Neopets. Facebook games always felt intrusive and obnoxious to me.

Twitter on the other hand is really useful, I can follow content producers and receive links to interesting articles, pictures, etc. I wouldn't use Twitter socially, but as a media outlet it is pretty sweet. In that sense it's not really relevant to the conversation as I would never use it in the same way I expect to use facebook.

Forums are interesting in that you get lots of interesting posts to read through, often well thought out, or otherwise perhaps amusing. It all feels a bit impersonal to me though.

Good for keeping track of some people. It is like all the other social websites, vicarious.

If you are looking for substance either go to someone's home or go out for a meal or at least dial eleven numbers and talk to them. Most of my relatives are too f*&king lazy for that, then they bitch about how nobody calls or shows up.

Yes you can hate social medias but you can't deny that it's useful for other people; connecting one person to another from one country to another. For example, me I have lots of friends in FB, but do I talk to them a lot? No. Do I care? No because they're just FB friends especially to my relatives at the Philippines. It doesn't really mean anything.

Those who complain about the numbers of friends people have and how worthless it is are usually those who are envious of the person' life. Note, I said usually there are those reclusive & rarely enough Socratic people who are righteous to their cause.

It really depends per country however, some are very vulgar and publicize their lives to the whole world and I won't criticize them, but I'll also say that my current location isn't like that.

Closed Minded people be like ... I'm just being reclusive when in fact they really want those kind of lives. A perfect example is OP per his rage comment. Remember, life is always better if you look at things in a much positive mood. This is why anime fans (the masses) tends to get a lot of hates from the society because of well ... how they treat the society.

I agree with you wholly. I used to hate facebook, girly things, and make up a bunch because it was mainstream and how if I'm girl I'm just another stupid girl but really... I was really insecure when I hated all these things (I was like 15?) Just because something is mainstream doesn't mean you have to hate it and if you still keep your facebook even though you hate it... why don't you just delete it? Why waste your time on something you hate?

It's aright. Sometimes I try to stay away from it as it's pretty depressing at times.
