What is a show(s) that you did not like that you should have or thought you would like based on the genre, story, and/or characters?

I'm not asking about shows that other people think are good and you just didn't like them as much or at all.
Specifically a show that you yourself went in thinking this is a show you will like and yet it ended up being bad in your mind.

Example: You like Ecchi shows but (somehow) you did not like High School DxD.
(Easiest genre example to use here)

Yes, I know there are a lot of threads like this one talking about your favorite, most hated, dropped, over hyped, underrated, surprising, or disappointing shows.
I think the recent most disappointing thread is the close to what I am asking but not the same thing.

If this is too similar to the other threads, please go ahead and close it down.

I'm actually going to steal your example, I heard HSDXD was good from a friend and turned out not being able to stand it. Also I expected to like Attack on Titan, but I think a lot of that was the over-hyping that surrounds it.

I really thought I'd like Samurai Deeper Kyo. It had all the elements - cool swords, epic battles, magic powers, romance, etc, and I generally love shows of that ilk.. but even though I watched the entire thing, or perhaps especially because of the last several episodes, I was left with a "meh" feeling. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, except if they're really bored, and even then only to certain folks.

High School DxD is a bit different for me (given my avatar, heh).. I liked the armor, and the story behind what it was, and even liked the general story of the anime, but I would've preferred it if it wasn't as ecchi. Take the same elements into more of a shonen style (even keeping the harem aspect), and I probably would've loved it.

A recent example for me would be Coppelion.

I thought this show was going to be great: The cast was pretty good, the art seemed awesome, the setting seemed really interesting, and premise sounded cool. Then after 9 episodes I was just done with it and was pretty disappointed. I saw so much potential and then it just hit rock bottom for me. I dropped it after episode 9.

I do personally like DxD (having read the LN).
To each his own, but outside of your friend mentioning that it was good, would you say you like/don't mind ecchi shows?
If you don't like/ can't stand ecchi, you never really had a chance of liking it. (though there is a lot of story behind all of the ecchiness)
Is this something you would have liked minus your friend's recommendation is the kind of answer i'm looking for.

Like, 60% of mecha shows.

What's so hard about making a mecha show good? Honestly. All people want is fight scenes, robots, and a passable story.

It's the story part that gets them. They're so goofy sometimes. Valvrave was so bad it ended up being good anyway, but Nobunaga the Fool and Captain Earth? Not so lucky. Argevollen is honestly really boring and slow this season.

Even an excuse plot for fight scenes (like Gundam Build Fighters) is better than plots that aren't engaging, or just pull plot twists for the heck of it.

Gonna say SAO, I watched all of the first ARC but after Kirto(sp) wakes up and the creepy dude pops up, bleh. I just couldn't get into it again. I am waiting on a few more episodes of the Gun arc before i dive back into it and give that one a shot

Is this the outcome of setting your expectations high or just having expectations period?
