Do you people move as a group now? Is this some sort of migration? lol

Anyway, after thinking more about this topic, i'm not sure you can compare the quality of one year to another - even on a personal basis. To do so, you'd have to make some sort of decision between which is more important: the quality of the shows, or the quantity of shows. If year X has 5 shows that greatly appeal to you, but year Y has 2 shows that you think are phenomenal, which year is better? That's an interesting question to ponder. After thinking about it, it just seemed like the question itself was rather silly lol

What year did Aria come out though? I think that's the best year to me personally lol Even though I didn't even watch it that year

It's the same thing we do when we rate an anime we've finished though, right? Not all episodes are created equal, so at the end of each show we kind of look back and figure out how much we liked it as a whole; including the lows, the highs, and the averages. In a way a season or year is made up of anime in the same way an anime is made up of episodes.

2006 is the biggest year for anime ever with the 1998 and the 1999-2001 period as a notable mentions. 2014 may not be over yet, but even after 2014 ends I highly doubt 2014 will ever be as great as 2006.

Notable 2006 shows (this one is a doozie):
Akagi
Shakugan no Shana
Black Cat
Mai-Otome
Solty Rei
Blood+
Noein
Mushishi
Karin
Pale Cocoon
Fate/Stay Night
Aria the Natural (S2)
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
School Rumble S2
Gintama
Utawararemono
Air Gear
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Nana
Ouran Host Club
Zegapain
xxxHolic
Saiunkoku Monogatari
Black Lagoon
Hachimitsu to Clover S2
Zero no Tsukaima (S1)
Welcome to the NHK
The Girl who Leapt Through Time
D.Gray-man
Death Note
Ghost Hunt
Code Geass (S1)
Kanon 2006
Hitman Reborn
Kekkaishi
Freedom
Paprika

More than likely forgot some.

I really think the Golden Age of Anime was this era, 1995-2008. Who knows what the future will hold though. As for 2014? Mmm not quite up there yet.

What you may like is what someone else will avoid like the plague (Example: Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, and Space Dandy ranged from pure garbage to meh for me).

I don't think that was his point... I think the point was that these titles exposed more people to the medium, which introduces a whole new generation of people to the anime fandom as a whole. I understand what he is talking about. For instance Attack on Titan is pretty big even among people that don't really like anime. This is something I haven't seen much of since Dragon Ball Z or FMA. Titles like Titan, SAO, Space Dandy, Kill la Kill, or whatever are titles that grab those outside the fandom that might never have entered without these titles exposing them to it. This is extremely important for marketing to the Western audiences, hence a big deal.

Personally, the years 2011-2014 have been very kind. I think 2011 is better when it comes to overall quality titles than after, but everything put together seems to be like an anime rebound, especially for Western audiences.

I suppose that makes sense - but generally speaking, a show is far more consistent than a season. Your enjoyment may vary from episode to episode, but that variation still tends to be in a fairly predictable range. At least, it is for me. I've never watched an episode one week and said "I hate this show" and move on to "I love this show" in the next. Though, Soul Eater Not did come pretty close XD

That's actually something which I never even considered - if there are shows that you hate, they can actually lower the value of a particular season lol I didn't even factor that into the equation....

But I guess, for all intents and purposes, an average can work. I personally have trouble doing that though.l Maybe it's because i'm far more wishy washy and hand-wavy when it comes to a shows quality lol
