Do you lose on purpose in either competitions or games? Why?

If you're familiar with tiers in different variations of competitive games: I myself, purposely like to use low-tier characters that typically aren't tournament viable or are structured to take a significant amount of skill to perfect; you could say i'm a bit of a masochist. Dependent upon the situation throwing games may or may not be an option.

I think the way you say make it sound like everyone in the world is either a Sadist or a Masochist. <-An allusion to Inu X Boku SS.
On topic Competitive games like Pokémon I've been playing for years, so I I know someone is not on master level then I usually let them win.
But in a game like battlefield 4 on PC I play to win especially when I am already at a disadvantage(xbox 360 controller).

Depends I don't like losing and I can be a bit competitive, but I also like a challenge. If the competition/game was easy I would allow my opponent to catch up and then go back to trying.

I loose on purpose so my opponents doesn't quit...as simple as that.
I'd hate it if someone lost on purpose against me though. I would always want to play against someone at their best, even if i get dominated completely.

nope,i try my best even tho its a friendly game/single player game or whatever,i cant even bring myself to enjoy a gaming session nowadays if i dont go full concentration.if i failed that section,i will repeat the same section over and over again to get the best way/combo.
and i hate people that doing this lose on purpose thing, for me they did not respect the opponent/developer. if its a child/handicapped opponent[s],i will not even join the game[if i see the opponent, example: in arcade].if i feel tired or not up for the challenge,i wont even play the game.

That is very true and good discipline. If we don't prefer to "take it easy" depending on what we're doing (day in the park vs. major leagues) we can always select our competitor, someone worthy if you will. This shows people you know your skill level & won't go up against someone who will embarrass themselves...unless they really want to. I do NOT agree with today's everyone's a winner mindset so unless you're doing it only for fun, go hard.

I would never go easy on you. I will always give my 100% and then some.

I don't do this because I want to win, I do this because I want you to become stronger.
If I go easy on you, you will never learn how to become strong.

It may seem cruel, but if you are not the type of player that keeps trying and finding a way to beat me, then you don't deserve to beat me.

If I just win constantly the game isn't a game anymore. My opponents become frustrated and eventually don't want to play at all anymore. So sometimes I lose intentionally, but you've got to do that subtly so they don't know that's what you're doing.

If you're constantly letting yourself have a disadvantage to have fun then you need to play against better players. Using shitty weapons on CoD or similar tactics to give the opponent an advantage isn't fun. Because for myself, using a really UP weapon on CoD just makes the game frustrating because I'm still out shooting you except the weapon I'm using is worse than yours.

That's why if I want to play a game a lot I find a community where there's people trying to play competitively. I can't play pro because of my shitty 2 down and .3 upload connection that I usually run with but there's still plenty of places where above average players go to play and have a challenge.

Nope, even with my kid brothers. Can't give kids the idea that you will always be a winner, losing is part of growing up. We all can't get every job, win the lotto daily, and be the best at everything, it is not realistic.

Sometimes when I play with my little brother I let him win.
Its not fun to win all the time.

No and I am a sore loser. I have to win :p plus I don't like to "hand over" a win. They have to work hard for it cuz I put all my effort into winning xD

If I'm clearly superior I'll go easier to make it more fun for me, but I'd never lose on purpose, it's insulting to your opponent and plus I take the same viewpoint Largo took with Erica from MegaTokyo.

Depending on the situation, I usually try to lose because I hate competing and I want it to be over fast. Unless it's volleyball or kick ball. Or a video game, then in that case you are goin' DOWN.
