Hi, do you know this and/or other story patterns collections?

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage

Sorry, was not sure how to share this other but by posting new topic.

Just stumbled upon this site, it's like a collection of various known patterns/tricks in modern stories/scripts, described often in wonderful manner.
It's really interesting to me, so I thought, may be there're others who, like me, haven't seen it before, but would enjoy.

Amazing especially when you read and reminisce all the anime that used the pattern in question, or if you don't know such - mind automatically makes up your own!

Funnily, I found it by getting to this page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ArtificialRiverbank while looking up "anime river bank" or something, which is understandably one of the favorite things in anime, and then I was like: "you are sooo mean!" lol when reading their cynical entry on this.

If there's similar topic - please lock this one, but give me link to existing one please? Thanks! (:

p.s. they also have cool way to hide spoilers yeah! (Like here http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NotNamedInOpeningCredits in Anime/Manga examples)

TvTropes is great.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're asking for, but in terms of actual plot patterns there's Joseph Campbell's The Hero's Journey and Vladimir Propp's Functions of Folktales (both are TvTropes page links... it's that convenient).

I also found a blog a little while back that talked about unconventional plot structures and designing principles.

Don't go. It's a trap. You'll click a page and then all the sudden it's five hours later.

And that is cool. Sort of but not the same thing, it looks at the plot of stories as graphs or shapes.

TVtropes is amazing. It's only downside is how much big of a timesink it is because it's so funny and enjoyable to actually read! Man I love that site, it also helps you see shows in a different way or pick up on things you didn't see before or even get you interested in a television, anime or manga series. I know it has for me on quite a few occasions.

lol I used to get lost in there for up to six hours. Fortunately, I now copy and paste the text of my favorite tropes pages onto Wordpad, so I don't visit as much.

There's a pretty humorous lecture clip of this.

Before you click any links leading to TV Tropes I beg of you, please click this link: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TVTropesWillRuinYourLife

I love TV Tropes as a website to just spent some (=a lot of) time browsing but it is also my main resource for deciding whether something (usually anime) is worth watching. This is because it doesn't offer reviews or other opinions but rather gives an objective and fairly spoiler-free description of a show and letting me decide for myself whether it sounds like something I would enjoy.

That's another person crossing the event horizon of the black hole that is TV Tropes. Let's have a moment of silence in honor of the recently lost.

If you don't have any homeworks, or any kind of chores to do, you may enter.
If not...it's at your own risk.

Also, the website got a lot better ever since they removed troper tales
Seriously.
