It's not 100% clear as to what's happening just yet. I've heard they're possibly taking a break from production to restructure themselves etc. But I believe the signs point to closure.

It's pretty much known the studio was only surviving movie-to-movie, which isn't a sign of a healthy company. It still came as quite a shock when I read about it, though. I always looked forward to a Studio Ghibli movie every year

I heard they where shutting down the company but where still going to keep a small group of people together to make another porco roso and maybe more. Hopefully this is the case I could be wrong tho.

actually they're not closing they're just going on hiatus for "restructuring" in other words they're firing some people and getting some new ones because the last couple weren't quite as successful. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Studio-Ghibli-Closing-Despite-Rumors-66584.html

I'm sorry they are closing the animation department. But life goes on. I wish all involved at Studio Ghibli nothing but the best in their future endeavors.

Well this is now one of the [email protected]$£%$ weeks ever!!!

1st my dog, whom i've known half my bleeding life is dead. I nearly get killed because a bus driver can't tell the difference between green & red lights. And now ghibli is closing?!?!

I really hope they're just cooling off/restructure for awhile. I'd rather them do fantastic films then pumping out films by the bucket & there be no magic in them like their other works.

It's like someone saying there'll be no more disney or pixar films.

Heck, if this is true & ghibli is done, i'd at least like to see the staff do their own projects i.e like hosoda with his films after leaving howl moving castle. He went on to do three awesome films, the girl who leapt through time, summer wars & wolf children.

You have my sincere condolences on your pet. Pets are family and losing one hurts. But try and remember all the good times and he/she will never fully be gone. I also believe he/she will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you very much. Just been hard getting used to her not being there. I keep going into the room she loved to rest in, thinking she's still there.

I know that in the end she didn't suffer or die a slow, painful death. She just got to peacefully sleep before the end. She was stubborn though, she lasted longer than the vet predicted.

I can't see Studio Ghibli closing. The brand is incredibly strong worldwide. Look to a serious restructuring and culling of the herd. Hideki Anno is going to be involved in some way with the restructured company. They will work more with outside studios for animation requirements. Look for the restructured company to aggressively market existing IP. I could see Anno and a new Ghibli releasing a sequel to Nausica as there are plenty of rumors about this anyway. Restructuring would allow Studio Ghibli to encourage new talent, and allow it to better focus on managing projects with a broader world/mass market appeal.
