They dress up like strange animals and spend too much money on anime videos.

I'm an otaku and sometimes, my siblings will say I act weird. They say I'm kinda crazy or something but I'm not entirely sure if it has something to do with this...

my other friends who dislike anime said i am kinda freak and anime is all to blame

To give a more reasonable response

You shouldn't ask the opinion of a cow as to which meat tastes best. They're obviously going to say chicken.

If they aren't a fan of anime, they just might insult it. Its your job as a friend to slap a fool who insults you, and that is what they're doing. Do you expect a Basketball player to just agree when someone walks up during ng practice to tell them Basketball sucks? Do you tell a a movie lover thatovies are fake and they're wasting their time?

I would ask what's strange about liking anime, but people are racist and sexist. They(as in people) arnt very bright.

Make your own decisions, and go watch 90's Anime. The early 90's was a huge self indulgent time for Anime fans.

Actually, watch Genshiken
Have your friends watch Genshiken.

And BAMN, that's otakuism. If your not as Otaku as they are, I feel ashamed for you... Or perhaps your the lucky one.

Yes most of us are that's why it such a fun crazy bunch to hang out with

Was at an animecon with over 5000 people in my home city last month, lots of random huggies, boys and girls wearing very few clothes doing smexy poses because they like it (asked someone for a picture, she said sure and first walked up a few steps on the chairs in front of us to deliberately get a fun little pantsu shot in the photo XD), using random Japanese words, crazy events (hentai voice over and cosplay dating show for the win!!), and off course everyone was hyperactive and running around glomping random people they didn't know calling them sempai, imouto, or onni-chan. IE the usual. XD

Again, that's why they are such fun places to be~

Younger people tend to act over the top in everything they do not just in anime fandom. I think a lot of the younger anime fans also want to be seen as weird and underground so they feel like a special snowflake but really anime has become much more mainstream in recent times and people know what it is. Also anime cons attract thousands of people.

Anime itself like Genshiken probably has some blame for people thinking about the weirdness because they exaggerate the Otaku lifestyle a bit. In reality the daily life of the average Otaku is just really really boring. Most are either students or salarymen and spend much of their time in studies or work so they can afford to buy the latest figure or Anime blu-ray for like $200

No the people who dont watch anime are the strange ones.

I mean no I don't I'm pretty sure I act at the very least mature and responsible. I watch anime not be a unique little snowflake or anything but because I like it. If you saw me on the street, last thing you'd expect is I'm into the stuff I'm into but that's how it should be.

For me at least anime is a release from daily life for me, where I have to dress nicely and be an adult, so it's a nice escape from reality for me.

I think watching anime made me a more calm and quiet person. My 3 older siblings are the complete opposite of me, so i might appear strange in their eyes.
Not sure if this was the result of anime though

Yeah, most people who do watch anime are weird. I find that most, whenever I meet them, suffer from social retardation.
