Of the newer ones, Xenoblade Chronicles and Dragon's Dogma.

And since we're talking about RPGs: Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale series, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, and then there's the Temple of Elemental Evil which implements a ton of pen and paper combat mechanics. How could we talk about RPGs without the mention of DnD

DnD doesn't appear to cross the minds of otaku it appears lol

I think I played a Baldurs Gate game in the past (early 2003ish) and it was fun.

Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite RPG of all time. It was the first "real" rpg I played and I fell in love with the story and characters.

Dragons dogma was great and is one of my favorites. My fave part is creating my character but what was great about Dragons dogma was that they allowed you to make 2 characters!

Hmmmm...Concerning Ruby Weapon, maybe...FOR ONCE!...I know something that You may not have thought of. As soon as the freaking Battle begins, cast "Hades: Black Cauldron" summon. A huge weakness of Ruby that many may not know of, is that it is fallible to "Stop"!....CRAP!!!! I JUST READ ALL OF YOUR POST AND DARNIT, IF YOU AREN'T ALREADY ON TOP OF THINGS ONCE AGAIN! Darn, Lady...If there's ever a Debate or quiz simply answering random things, I WANT YOU ON MY TEAM! Dang. And here I thought I had FINALLY gotten One over on Yah....

Rather than concentrating on that, let's instead concentrate on the fact that we both deeply love one of the greatest installments in the Final Fantasy franchise. To that end, we'll focus less on the facts (which it seems we both already know) and instead on the subjective things. For example, who was your favorite protagonist? What was your favorite scene? Which song from the OST did you love best? Or what was your favorite location? Great subjects for discussion, any and all.

I'll tell You who it's NOT. And that's Cloud or Squall...no Tidus, or Vaan. So that leaves Zidane and, considering VI really has no MAIN "Protagonist", many of the playable Characters from FFVI. I'm sure some are a bit surprised that Zidane, or all characters would end up being who I'm going with. But...when You look back at each of the Others that I've mentioned, and read into WHO THEY ARE, and WHY THEY'RE FIGHTING, many of the "Darlings" leave a lot to be desired. Zidane on the other hand, actually HAS a proper and fitting purpose for why He decides to fight. Finding out that You were nothing but a creation by a 'Madman' brought into the World as a living, breathing Weapon of Mass Destruction...Yeah. That would more than likely irk ME as well! And all the while, You're with a Princess who has experienced more than Her share of troubles, and You find Yourself drawn and glued to Her cause...I side with Zidane in His struggles, and eventually overcoming them. And the thing is, is that He KNEW, and made it KNOWN that He couldn't do everything alone; on His own. When You look at Cloud and Squall and the Others, they're all "HE-MEN!"...They're the loner type. The type who thinks they can do all that there is to accomplish on their Own. Zidane is the exact opposite. So He's My choice! My favorite SCENE? Wow. You know, that's a ridiculously difficult question to answer, as there is NO other Game(s) out there in the History of Gaming that Uses the "Cutscene" to the extent, wonder, and perfection as does the Final Fantasy series. But You know? I'm going to choose One quick; Off the top of My head. And incredulously, it comes from Final Fantasy IX! The Game in which Zidane hails! And the Scene of choice is ALL ABOUT HIM, as well! Do You remember when the Group reaches "Pandemonium"...the dwelling place of the Creator, Garland? When Zidane is told, and fully learns of the truth behind His existence and it absolute, emotionally breaks Him? "You're Not Alone"...THAT scene. He's emotionally shattered, and for the first and only time, does He abandon His Friends and attempts just to go His own way...It's so poignantly, wonderfully coordinated...And it's stuck with Me to this very Day. His Friends come after Him, only to be pushed aside and cursed at. I can understand this feeling...Not that I've ever learned that I was created to destroy all of Creation, but I know the feeling of being down that very low...The absolute lowest bottom that One can reach. You think that there's NOTHING that will bring You out of it; Life is POINTLESS, and damn the consequences of whatever shall occur, heretofore. But no matter HOW dark and dim Your conscious may have reached and become...SOMEWHERE within, there is a flicker; the tiniest bit You can imagine...But it's there. LIGHT. Happiness. Determination. Friendship. Wisdom. Love. I cried during this scene, and as sad as it may be, it is on the other side of the metaphorical coin, One of the most bracing, creating of determination and desire instances seen throughout the entire Final Fantasy series. Friendship, Man. My favorite SONG from the OST's? I could EASILY say the Song that plays during the scene in FFIX that I just described; "You're Not Alone!" But this is One of the more unanswerable questions. MAN, I love Nobuo Uematsu. He is a weaver of Musical magic. FFVII's OST was the VERY FIRST thing I ever bought Online way back when. "You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet" from VII is My answer. It's sad...magical...It brings about a complete host of different and varied emotions. This is a bad thing, but back when I Used Opiates, this was a Song that I could nod to. As I said, that's not One of the best reasons for something to be memorable, but I'm simply speaking the truth to You. It's also helped Me during some difficult times in My Life; somehow, it's able to move about certain feelings that simply never came up into the forefront in My Mind. And that's a wonderful thing. As a "BONUS", My favorite Final Boss tune is, "The Extreme" from FFVIII's OST during the Final confrontation with the Sorceress Ultimecia! A CLOSE second, would be "Dancing Mad" from FFVI. I'm not talking about the FINAL Battle with Kefka, after He has turned into a 'God', rather the music that plays as You fight upwards TOWARD Him. It's quite interesting, that the entire second to Final Battle up the way...Each incarnation You see of Kefka, shouts out to "Dante's Inferno"! The entire battle is symbolizing the Divine Comedy in which Dante travels through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, finally reaching God, who speaks to Dante and recounts to Him the 'meaning of Life'. The third and next to Final tier of the Battle has the music of "Dancing Mad" in which I love OH so much. This tier represents Kefka's narcissism and opposition to any other deities asides from Himself. Great memories indeed! And lastly...My favorite LOCATION...? I'm quickly going with the Lunar Base from FFVIII. The music that plays; again, ANOTHER candidate for One of My FAVORITES, "The Dance of the Balamb Fish" makes things so giddy and neat! And that's One thing that VIII lacked a bit was just an overall 'happy wonder'. Another, was "Hidden Library: Daguerreo" from FFIX. The music almost brings tears to Your eyes; I'm listening to it this very minute.

“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” - Jorge Luis Borges

I hope You enjoy My compilation of My many loves regarding the Final Fantasy series...These memories will last forever. Of that, I'm QUITE certain.

I believe Final Fantasy II (IV) was the first RPG I ever played and that's the one that got me hooked on RPGs and the Final Fantasy series. Super Mario RPG was also another one of my favorites from my childhood, gotta love Square!

Final Fantasy for jrpg (haven't made it through many, to be honest).
Fire Emblem: The Awakening ifor tactical rpg - I've got to play more of these now.

For western rpg, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II. It was much reviled, but for me, it was an interesting experience.
You see, I never got far in the first one, and in the second one, your character has amnesia. So me not knowing stuff actually made it really interesting, like a mystery of sorts (why doesn't anyone do mysteries except those terrible point and click adventure games?).

Of course the Fallouts and Elder Scrolls and Baldur's Gates etc. are all great, but I've never finished any of them, fun as they were.

My favourites to date are currently:

- Final Fantasy VII - The first RPG I ever played. Still play this now and fairly often
- Final Fantasy X - A long lived RPG with a beautiful HD remake, )plus portable now)
- Kingdom Hearts, (all of them) - A beautiful mashup of Square-Enix and Disney
- Persona 4 Golden, (ps vita) - Still not finished this and put in well over 50 hours. It just keeps giving and giving in the enjoyment factor, plus its a lot like watching anime, (also portable and has seen its fair share of travel)
- Grandia 1 and 2 - Great games with beautiful stories from an age passed.
- Tales of.... Series - Love all these games too

When I have finished with Persona 4 Golden, I will take a look at downloading the others. I hadn't heard of this series till about 6 months ago and have not looked back since picking up the forth instalment for the ps vita, (paid around 7$ on the PSN )

My favorite RPG is Chrono Trigger. I don't remember whether it was my first one or not, but it was definitely one of the first. That game sparked a love for genre of video games that has only gotten stronger with time.

Another RPG that I love almost as much as Chrono Trigger is Xenogears on the PS1. That game blew my mind the first time I played it. It has an amazing soundtrack and a fantastic story. On top of that, it has my favorite female game character ever (Elly), and the game's ending theme remains my favorite song from any video game to this day.
