A lot of shows have been around for a long time. They have comments that have hundreds of up-votes, and are kept up top. However, there are fans that watch these old shows long after they've aired. They make comments, but those are burred at the bottom. No one sees them.

The old comments are old. Those conversations are over. It's the new comments, the new conversations, that should be on top, so that current fans can have their current conversations. I find it dissatisfying to want to add my two cents to someone's statement, only to realize it's over a year old.

Therefore, CR should make he newest comments the default setting, and if someone wants to see a comment from a year ago, they can change the order.

There's no point in doing this when it takes 2 seconds to change the sort option to 'recent.' I'm definitely not against it, but I'd rather have the top comments up there.

Have you seen the "Recent" comments? They're just single comments, but no conversation is taking place, because people don't change it to the "Recent" conversations. It's like they leave the default, "Oldest", make they're comment, and go on without knowing if anyone will see it. No conversation takes place. If the "Recent" comments are the default, then there will be conversations based on the new comments.

That is a compelling reason to change the default, in my opinion.

Last time I checked, it wasn't a chatroom.

And despite the fact that it isn't a chatroom, people like to comment on the episodes, and to comment on other people's comments. Only, it isn't worth commenting on year old comments, because they're not recent, and people don't find it worth while to comment on recent comments, because it's very likely no one will see what they said. Something needs to be done to make commenting relevant on older shows, to the newer audiences.
