I guess it depends on the individual... or collective... are they even beings as we understand it? Well, however they are identified it wouldn't be fair to generalise (or would it?). I suppose it's worth noting that the word "Abomination" seems a little discriminatory too.

If the main point about an Eldritch Abomination is that they can't be understood and normal realities don't apply to them then I think it's kind of questionable as a narrative tool. They can do what they want because they can and you can't understand so there's no need to explain, that just seems like a cop-out. In terms of horror it's a pretty simple use of "fear of the unknown" by simply saying that not only do you not know but you can never know regardless of how hard you try.

As to a "real" Eldritch Abomination, it comes down to the question of the limits to what humans can learn. If we have no limits (or can find ways to break/expand our limits) then we'd ultimately be capable of understanding anything even if it seems almost impossible at the time. In that case something that seems like an Eldritch Abomination is merely a puzzle to be solved. In the past, humans have believed that certain things were impossible but with advances in knowledge they can even become trivial. Maybe one day those "Eldritch Abominations" will be our neighbours because we've learned to understand and live with them. Of course, if we do have limits and can truly never understand them then it's not really worth worrying about since we can't do much about it anyway (although that would rely on us being able to realise what our limits are but not being able to exceed them, until then we'd be just as well going as far as we can).

Also, it'd be interesting to know if they can understand us. If they're so different and see the world so differently then they could struggle just as much. We'd be Eldritch Abominations to them, the poor things might be terrified (or whatever their equivalent might be).
