Somewhat yup. The anime will end this Fall most likely around October since it will catch up with the Election Arc. I expect the anime series to go on a long hiatus. The manga returned recently but it's not too far ahead either.

Damn, that's kind of sad.

But is the manga getting close to finishing you think?

With the way it is progress, definitely nope. There are too many unresolved issues still.

Well, the Big 3 title is more of a popularity/nostalgia thing than actually reflective of how good those anime currently are. So while I believe HxH is vastly superior in every way to Naruto, Bleach, or One Piece, it lacks the mainstream popularity or episode count to dethrone them. With that said, the
is the only thing I have ever cried about in an anime, so HxH is in my Big 1.

Isn't there a seinen version of The Big Three or no?

Hunter x Hunter is better than any of the big three, so I would not add it. I would put it above them.

*chuckles*

If one existed (for manga, at least), it'd have to contain Bastard! and Berserk. Just wouldn't feel right otherwise.

As for One Piece, yeah, I agree, the 4Kids dub pretty much killed any chance of it taking off in the early '00s. It has recovered since then, but only among non-casuals, from the look of things.

Like the other thirtysomethings in this thread, I will agree that DBZ used to be big, and probably still is in many ways. The "Big 3" of the late '90s, if you will, would have (IMO) DBZ, Sailor Moon, and, after 2000, Gundam Wing.

On topic: The question has been asked before, but here is my thinking on the H X H thing: If it can attract the same level of loathing as the (current?) Big 3, then yes, it belongs there, though I would say it should be disqualified on the basis of the current show technically being a remake of one previously released. (That point can be debated, though.)

What about Fairy Tail? Seems much more Big 3-ish to me.

If it doesn't have filler, then HxH is gonna end sort of soon, sadly. That'll bump it out of the running as soon as it gets in.

I thought HxH was getting close to catching up with the manga?

That's what I mean. I guess I'm referring to the Big 3 only by their anime adaptations. HxH the anime is gonna end sort of soon. And if it does, then I don't think it'll be long enough to be considered for the Big 3.

It'd have to be Berserk, Gantz, and Bastard/Sun-Ken Rock/JoJo's.

I think it's definitely much better than the big 3. It has, in my mind come to surpass the standard shonen model of the big 3. I've enjoyed and still watch the big 3, but I look forward to each new HxH episode with bated breath almost. Also, it's not going to be long enough or popular enough to be added to the "big whatever # you want"....

I think the big three should be: Naruto Shippuden, Hunter x Hunter and Sword Art Online II. So yes, Hunter x Hunter should be in it. Why isn't anyone thinking of adding Sword Art Online II? It got more than 1000 votes in less than a week.

Isn't the shonen big 3 supposed to just be the top selling manga of any given time? Which would mean right now that it's One Piece, Attack on Titan, and Naruto, right?

All these American fans got so obsessed with the idea of a big 3 ("OMG GUYZ IT BIG 3 ANIMEZ!!!!") like 7 years ago that the list hasn't even changed after the Bleach anime was cancelled! I feel like it's time to move on from weird, outdated concepts like this.

I think HxH should have its own category; maybe the Ultimate One, or something.
