I'm surprised people are comparing it to Blue Spring Ride and saying this guy is better. I disagree. Circumstances are quite different, and I think that's relevant.

Not sure if you were refering to me and Bathroom's chat....but that was a bit more of a joke lol, basically the Black Prince is just Kou's Jerkness amplified 1000 folds. Tho I don't think I have said he is better yet...BUT def more fun to watch

Don't recall exactly whose posts I saw, but I know I saw it mentioned a couple of times. I guess I didn't get the joke. I do think Black Prince is behaving like way more of a jerk than Kou did.

I'm finding it fairly unpleasant not just because of Sata, but also because I really dislike shows where the plot complication is due to lying idiocy.

It's all a matter of consent.

Yeah, and is why there is probably very little shojo that will solidly appeal to me. I haven't read/watched much, but what I've read about it makes it pretty clear that with shojo, what I will like are things that depart from the classic in significant ways.

I actually did like Blue Spring Ride quite a bit. It had a more realistic feel to it--though I tended to identify more with Kou than with Futaba.

Hmmm so if the other party is a masochist is it A-O'cay ?

Lol seems like I am doing this too Often, may I recommend NANA to you? Although possibly too busy, but give it a shot if you find yourself extreme bored,

Oh and you secretly just called yourself a jerk.

Quite ocay.

I have seen and adore NANA. That's more josei than shojo though.

I do not deny that I am completely capable of being a jerk. (Did you not read my breakup speech to Joe )

(That's a joke.Jerk I may have sometimes been and may be again but I've not ever actually broken up with someone that way!)

But I'm more of a Kou-type jerk than a Sata-type jerk.

i LOVE the manga, & i liked what they've done with the anime so far. He's such a tsundere

i'm reading both Ao Haru Ride and this one, and i definitely think Kou is more of a jerk than this guy. But this also isn't a "feels" anime, it's just lighthearted fun for the most part. In AHR you feel sorry for the characters or w/e, in this one you just either cringe or laugh at them lol. This manga/anime is certainly more to my taste, but I do enjoy both series. ^^

p.s. he is so freakin hot that image of him at the beginning... ( ̄¬ ̄) i'd become a masochist for him...

Ah bummer! I lost another person to surprise, The material is def Josei, but as long as the style, and the publication originates from Shojo I will have to use that as my patsy to get people into this Genre

I did and it was brutal, makes a guy question himself

Well I will sat I am more Sata than Kou

I think I might enjoy this one all the way through. I dropped Blue Spring Ride halfway through last season because of the cliche of the best friend liking the same guy.

You missed out on the 2nd best AOTS then...

That being said, this one looks interesting, lots of speculation by my wife and I over what Kyouya's motivations could be. Looks like an interesting ride to come.

So the theme here is if you endure enough humiliation and exploitation, eventually you might find love?

Somehow I think that might be a bad thing.

I think it's kinda funny that for many people Blue Spring Ride pops up in the conversation. As soon as the MCs appeared my first thought was .... OH DAMN! They're a revamp of Ko and Futaba!! lol

My impression of the show wasn't bad, I only hope it continues the pace.

I enjoyed the first episode, I wasn't sure I'd like it if the "abuse" aspect was too strong but I thought it was handled well enough so far.

I don't really think Kyouya was too bad. I'm speculating but it seems to me that he sees himself in Erika in that he seems to play the unapproachable "Prince" but isn't being entirely honest. If that's the case then it's understandable that he'd be angry at Erika for living a lie but also sympathetic and wanting to help her out.

He doesn't really "force" her to do anything since she could just be honest and he'd lose his "power" over her (though that's maybe easier to say). He doesn't have her do much aside from some menial tasks and a minor embarrassing act for his amusement so it's hard to say that he has treated her too badly. That said, it's worth noting that she wouldn't ask him to publicly admit to liking bondage so he has arguably proved himself at least a bit worse than her. I wouldn't say his motivations are entirely selfless but I found both characters to be believable (real people do stupid things surprisingly often).

The bit about Kyouya "liking" dogs was interesting. What he really seems to like is the idea of having a mindless slave without having to care for them, I wouldn't say real dog ownership is as he described (at least Erika seemed to realise that).

The show could go either way I guess. If the "abuse" got to be too much it could become a problem and the longer it takes for Erika to realise how worthless her new "friends" are the more annoyed I'm going to get at her. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep Erika sympathetic while she's also still a "wolf-girl" (since lying and making things worse for herself isn't the most appealing quality). Similarly, I wonder how "black" Kyouya can get without becoming irredeemably despicable. I think I'd prefer if they develop quickly (or at least keep getting better) since it could go wrong if they end up feeling too stuck in their respective personas.

On an unrelated note, I wondered if Sanda was going to be a trap character based on the intro (too cute to be a real girl). At the moment, I'm hoping Sanda and Erika get together but I guess it's early days (also, that's not going to happen). I guess I'll also ship Kyouya and that guy we only saw from behind that he was hanging around with, I think they'll be a cute couple.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the other characters are like, hopefully this'll end up being an enjoyable rom-com.

On an even more unrelated note, while watching this I was reminded of a scene in Deep Space Nine where "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" is discussed and one character notes that the moral could be interpreted as "never tell the same lie twice".

If you are comfortable with reading a spoiler on the direction it goes I've included one below.
If you just want to find out as the show progresses then avoid avoid avoid.

Episode 2

Kyoya didn't have any girlfriends until now, and it's no wonder anybody would refuse to be his girlfriend. Now, Erika has found someone who could be a legitimate boyfriend in Kimura if only she wasn't so quick to make Kyoya her boyfriend, and it was a trap all along. That was a good episode there seeing that Erika is slowly getting on good terms with Kyoya, although she is still his dog. It turns out that Kimura has some nasty history with Kyoya as well.

If Sata was a girl in this setting we would kinda have a "The Real Her" anime...
