So long as you can realize they are not real people, it's fine. Attraction is attraction, not much else to it.

I think the real problem is people who use anime characters as a substitute for other emotions. If you're alone, obviously you're going to want emotional connections with something or someone. Chances are you'll find it in something you take solace in and enjoy. Waifus are a strange slope to navigate, because you'll see one guy who knows the boundary of normal and odd, and the next who believes he's married to the character(s) and forgoes real life interaction because of it.

Your question was crushes. Those are harmless, really. I mean if you are physical attracted to an anime character that's totally fine. The art is getting more and more realistic, so it's only natural we see them as real humans. But the problem comes with the waifu culture, and although I don't mind it and think it's fine if they wish to do it, there is a certain line that needs to be watched.

I completely agree! It's interesting, I think Crushes are a regular thing and I kinda find it quite funny tbh. Then there is obsession and that's kind of freaky imo :s lool

The Waifu things creep me out a tiny bit but only if I know there's an obsession attached to it hahaha xD

As far as physical attraction to anime character.. Not sure about that really?

I don't see anything wrong with being attracted to them. I mean, hey, plenty of shows try to make their characters attractive in the first place for reason. I think the comparison to a celebrity crush is pretty solid.

Bet you didn't know that delusional people actually buy figures just to climax on them. Can you see wtf?

I guess it's normal enough. A fictional character can represent an ideal person and since they're not real you can kind of "fill in the blanks" yourself. I say "ideal" but I suppose it doesn't have to be someone you'd actually like, just a personality you find interesting. I like the celebrity comparison, most celebrities are essentially fictional characters after all.

If someone is delusional or obsessed with their idea of the perfect character/person then that's a problem in itself and doesn't have anything to do with the actual subject of their obsession.

I think its normal enough, but i don't take it seriously or be wierd about it , its like every other
crush in my opinion. except that the characters aren't real...damn.

The first time I asked a friend in school about it thinking I was the wierdo said
" so who's your fav character/crush from bleach? mines byakuya"
she says " awh no way! ichigo all the way whats wrong with you?!" *does fangirl "sqeee" thing *

I think it is like a celebrity crush. You will never get to date them, and are not very likely to ever meet a celebrity. And anime characters have some advantages over celebrities. They are less likely to get caught in a controversy (unless there is some plot twist in the show or manga); they are impossibly good looking, and will never lose those looks. And watching the show or reading the manga you will often get a character's internal monolog, the character is only portraying their real self at all times, in the world of the show or book they can only live as their self. So in some ways characters are more real then the roles that celebrities play in TV shows and movies. I think it is totally normal to have a crush on an anime character.

It's quite normal, and perfectly fine as long as people realize that they are just there to appeal to a massive audience and not someone who you can have a crush on. It's just like a celebrity crush there as it is somebody who you will never be able to date or all those other things that go along with relationships. The extremely weird and insane types of crushes do happen, but they are few and far between.
