Yeah, I try not to be cheap with stuff I am going to be looking at a daily basis. But I know a lot of people on a budget are better off not feeding their gear lust.

(I of course have a tendency to feed that because shop-a-holic and such.)

To note, I don't game. I just like treating myself. "LAWL"

Thinking of a separate laptop for work. Though, don't think a Chrome can run GIMP. I also don't like the newer tablet hybrids with Windows 8, and it seems like a waste to just boot up Ubuntu. Lastly, older laptops are already getting phased off or just out of time while at the same time still a bit too high relatively. "FIRST_WORLD_PROBLEMS_LAWL"

So what is your set up?

I don't really mind it, most of the time I usually want the newest toys that come out.

I still have my old Asus laptop that is still kicking. But yeah mostly all the old stuff is getting scraped.

I have a pretty basic Asus desktop and laptop, except I switched out the graphics card on the desktop for a more recent one. I usually don't do anything on on it except gaming. I use my laptop for everything else.

I have a bunch of "old" laptops and desktop for different workflows and different reasons behind them.

My main set at the moment is an Alienware X51 with I think a 24" screen. The reason I got it, again, is that it looks cool and lights up. "LAWL"

I have more powerful systems at hand but are too bulky. I want to get another small factor desktop and either an ultrawide or 4k monitor going forward.

The ASUS G20 looks awesome, but the thing about it that you actually void the warranty if you open it.

Alienware is pretty cool, I wanted to get one of those small desktops but that thing looks like it overheats quickly.

Man I really want a 4k monitor, I had my eyes set on an Asus one that was going for 1500. There's 8k coming out next year supposedly.

I really want to upgrade my system, maybe I'll end up building one again.

People keep telling me.
"Eh. Alienware is so pricey. You're better off with a better system at cheaper price."
Or. "Meh. You're dumb for spending all that cash."

The thing is that if you have the cash you don't care about the price. You just want what you want at the end just like how people want high end cars while a Toyota Camry will more than suffice.

It doesn't really overheat on me when I process video and photos, but then again, those only mainly use the core than the graphics. It's mostly the low profile and lights that sold me to it. Though, I kind of want it to be matte finish than gloss because the scratches and fingerprints are too apparent.

As for the 4k monitor, the thing is don't if you can't or even if you can. Not much things are out there for 4k. Even then, 4k chokes your system even if you have like a good processor. Don't really know where the industry goes with 4k because it seems a bit too obtuse in considering the limitations of the human eye. Better content, better story telling, and even better audio, at least to me, will always be king.

Then again, I'm looking at this. "LAWL"

If you want to improve your monitor, just get it color calibrated. Then and there, you'll get more for your screen.

haha I need to win the lottery.

Ah gotcha, the lights man...THE LIGHTS!

Yeah I'll end up sticking with my 27" monitor until I find something better. That's a nice one.
