Okay this is my first time posting a topic, so if this the wrong category or this topic has been used. Do whatever needs to be done. I did try to see if I could find this topic, but I never noticed anything. If any I noticed anything that was similar it involved celebrity anime fans, but that isn't what this topic is about....okay on to the question.

Have you ever met someone(in real life) that you were surprised was an anime fan? Also what was their relationship with you and why was it surprising?

For me I would have to say it was my high school English/Physics teacher. I went to a Christian school that was strict and probably considered anime inappropriate. However one day I was talking with a friend and he mentioned that my English/Physics teacher let a student borrow her Naruto manga. So I went up to my teacher and asked, turns out she was an anime fan and we had a lot of good conversations involving anime. It was just so surprising and unexpected to me. If I went to a public school I probably wouldn't have been surprised, but for a strict Christian school I would have never considered due to how some of them see things, I would have never guessed.

Again if a topic like this exists or it's in the wrong Category, do what needs to be done. I just thought it would be a fun conversation for people to share experiences and may be a good laugh.

I remember back in high school I overheard this huge jock-type guy talking about how much he loved Death Note. Now I know Death Note isn't an obscure anime or anything, but I was still surprised when I heard that he liked it.

Definitely me. I think 99% of people who meet me think I'm some rich kid who takes trips to the Hamptons. In reality, I'm the total opposite. If I was I'd have a premium pass!

I have no real "markers" of the typical anime fan. I present myself way different than what people think is the "norm". I go into comic stores and get asked all the time if I know what I'm doing and if I'm looking to "get into things". I have like 300 comic books stacked around my house, only thing I need to get into a method of arranging them.

Last thing people expect is I love anime and I speak Japanese. They're always like "Where did you learn this?" and I'm like "You know anyone can learn a language right..." I'm not fluent enough where I can speak to them and leave their heads spinning, but I did it once to this girl and she stopped speaking to me because apparently saying hello in Japanese is "weird".

Anyone can a fan of something. There's no entry exam.

The captain of a certain high school's debate team I happened to meet by chance.
The ideal student with a bright future and entry guaranteed to an ivy league,
was walking around with an OreImo bag.
To be honest, I didn't think a guy like that would have an interest...

...I thought it was kind of ironic, since he was debating against homosexuality and incestuous relationships.

It's Kuroneko my friend, her adorableness would make anyone be a fan of the show. Oreimo is one of my favorites and it's mainly because of Kuroneko and the whole relating to Kirino situation of being afraid of what people may think of you because of your hobbies. Still Kuroneko.
You should have gone up to him and played the Stardust Witch Meruru(hope I spelled that right) theme and see how he responds.

I'm not sure about me. I think it's half and half. I wouldn't say I have the "looks", but if you were to talk to me I know more about anime, games, and movies than I do sports and cars. So I guess it depends if people talk to me, but I'm typically a quite person anyway. xD

I would be too. To me it's like okay you're the jock type.so my guess is you pick on people like me or your nice, but don't have the same interests as me. Did you ever go up and talk to him about Death Note?

A fellow bioscience major who used to be a star of our football team and actually was on a university football team, never thought he liked anime until it randomly came up in conversation. Also, reformed gang member who LOVES anime and I actually got him hooked on NGNL and Black Bullet.

Wow a former gang member that's pretty cool. I would have never expected that. Next thing someone will mention their pastor or the nice elderly man that leaves in their neighborhood. I'm really liking these posts they are very interesting to read.
