When i used to write songs and make guitar riffs and melodies, it used to be a pain in the ass. The best thing i find for making a song is to come up with the instrumentals first. Find a melody that you can kick it with.

I used to listen to alot of epic orchestra and ost's and soundtracks in order to give myself some ideas. I tried to use the size and melodic nature of soundtracks and orchestral pieces and fuse it with heavy metal guitar.

After you create the instrumentals, its usually a bit easier to come up with song lyrics, as you know the rhythm and what your aiming for.

A good song is always hard to make. If it was easy to make, it would most likely be some basic boring garbage. Remember, the longer you spend on something, the more heart you put into it, and the more potential to become beautiful it has.

Good luck, im not sure if my comment helped you in anyway. but try to take a break from writing and listen to some music and try to find inspiration in something

You shouldn't write the song, it should write itself.

All the best songs I've ever written were literally written in minutes. It was just a flood of words that came out, went on paper, the riff appeared and boom that was it. 5 minutes, maybe 10 minutes at the most.

If you try and write a song, you will fail. That's my philosophy.

If you don't have the right inspiration, you won't succeed. But I believe in melody first. Paul McCartney himself dreamt the melody of "Yesterday" and hummed the tune to the rest of The Beatles before any of the lyrics even came into existence. (Fun Fact: the working title of "Yesterday" was "Scrambled Eggs").

Unless you're a natural born lyricist, music should come first and everything else later. I've always found it easy to make melodies and songs but maintaining quality and variety can be hard after years of playing but therein lies the fun in it all.

For me, I tend to just play around on the piano or play a guitar riff and then build on that. After a while I edit everything and add more stuff and done. However, I leave it alone for a couple months in case I want to make some changes. However, the hard part for me is mixing and mastering the track (because I'm still learning). I never had made lyrics and I'm not an expert at it, but I hope this helps.

I tend to do more EDM but I am experimenting with Hip Hop and rock.
