It's getting harder and harder to make up ideas since a lot of them are used already.

always hear people talk about old anime being better.. but I never got into titles that most people are into, like Cowboy bebop is the main example.

I have my own tastes... even presently, people are raging about SAO, AoT, aldnoah, etc. They're not really my thing... I'm more into the more obscure ones that most people don't like.

said this before, but another man's garbage is one man's treasure... (sorry if I phrased this wrong).

Publishers are risk adverse so they go the safe route and use themes that have sold well in the past. Once in awhile they might actually take a risk. I wouldn't say better or worse just stagnate.

I think creativity is still pretty common.

I directly compare the state of the anime industry to that of the (American, at least) film industry.

Because their almost completely outdated business models are robbing them of money, they become afraid of producing anything except for what "really sells" (i.e. sex), and recycling is heavy.

The good news is that producing anime is a fraction of the cost of producing a Hollywood movie, so the entry fee allows more creative people in because of the format than there would normally be.

People ain't monkeys lol. People have existed for a while yet we come up with millions of ideas daily that have never been thought before according to some science channel.

Because continued success leads to more reproductions. You'll see like 6 magic anime come out together or a bunch of mecha anime per season. I could write better plots than a lot of these anime, and so could every other anime fan out there. Creativity is there and there are some gems, but when profits and success is assured, stuff will be done again to keep that cycle. Another thing is that sex sells. Bustier and skimpier anime attracts another audience too. Plus, think about the adult merchandise that can be sold (dakimakuras). I'm not saying an adult genre is bad but it's becoming overdone. I'm sure there is plenty of creatives manga waiting to be animated but it just doesn't get the funds or isn't in the "safe zone"

there's still good stuff coming out, a lot of terrible anime was made in the 90's too, which is why we only talk about the good ones.
