Normally I describe myself as a "meatatarian" and have to force myself to eat veggies and the like . I'd hear vegetarians gush about it, and avoided it for the longest time (a veggie friend tried to serve me tofu "ribs" once X.X) Eventually though, I realized it was silly to avoid the food just because it was the darling of vegetarians... so bought a couple blocks of it at the supermarket and gave it a whirl. I fried it up with some garlic salt and it was DELICIOUS. Every now and then I'll go buy another block- it makes a great snack

Coming from an ovo-lactovegetarian:

I generally prefer the soft kinds of tofu vs the fried or more textured stuff, in the right stir fry or style of preparation it doesn't really matter tho.

Seitan and Tempeh are usually even tastier :D. Lately though, I'm actually eating more Indian food and less East Asian, that's generally even better. Paneer and Chic Peas ftw!

I love it. I like the texture of firm, frozen tofu. Or fried tofu. You can make it taste like pretty much anything and it's usually more healthy than whatever you're using it as a substitute for. Like rice or noodles or heavy proteins.

Angel Beats was and still is one of my favorite animes of all time. I am pretty sure my grandfather made mapo tofu on several occasions for me. He is a Chinese chef who really knows his stuff. I started cooking during junior high and tried making mapo tofu after watching Angel Beats during my freshman year of college. Somehow the taste was disturbingly nostalgic.

Tofu is a wonderful thing, depending on how it is served. Silken tofu goes well with specific dishes like mapo tofu. Firm tofu works well with stir fries. I have to admit that extra firm tofu is a difficult tofu to cook with. It does work well as a replacement for meat in hearty stews, but that is about all I have been able to use it for.

I've had several different kinds, including "smoked" and fried.... It was all good.... I haven't put much effort into westernizing it for more variety.... The most western idea I've ever had in the realm of tofu is the noodles that are made with yams and tofu... Shirataki.... If you blanch them in hot or boiling water and toss them with marinara sauce you will not be able to distinguish them from spaghetti... Do not boil them for more than a minute they will turn really tough and nasty....
