Hey CR. Thought this would be the appropriate place to pose this question.

So i have decided that i am going to get a back up laptop for security purposes and university work.

I currently have a top of the line laptop 12GB ram, Intelcore i7-2.4GHz CPU.

What would the recommended specs on a low end laptop for streaming crunchyroll video's?

i mostly stream in 720p-1080p. I am most likely going to invest in a laptop within the 300-800$ range (maybe even get a mac)

what would be the lowest technical specs i can purchase and still be able to stream in 1080p?

Probably something around 2 GHz dual core CPU (I'd go for an intel processor) and maybe 4 GB RAM. And whatever in board GPU will probably be fine. It doesn't really take a lot to stream in HD. I can't imagine something like that would cost much more than 400.

What's the point in a back up laptop when you can have a portable hard drive?

@ Balzack Thank you Balzack for the feedback. I'm happy to hear that 4GB ram suggestion as there is nearly a 400$ difference between 4GB ram and 6GB ram here in my country, so that saves me legit an arm and a leg.

@Sir_Jamesalot. Well i have 2 portable hard drives, each are 2TB. Both of them are actually completely full of anime :P.

I'm not really looking for extra room. Its mostly just for other purposes (Taking the laptop to other peoples houses, and to classes) my current laptop is like 15lbs :P, its one of the ASUS G75V gaming series, so its a hefty fortress of a laptop. Plus im really over protective of my laptop xD. i usually clean the inside of it almost every month. Its as precious as gold to me xD so i would just like a simple laptop i can take where ever.

Honestly for just streaming video you could probably even get by with 2 GB, though I wouldn't recommend it. In this article the video test portion never even exceeded 3 gigs: http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Feature/375815,how-to-how-much-ram-do--you-really-need.aspx

It's funny how little RAM people actually require for most of the things they may do on their PC's.
