Post Reply CNN depicts anime and manga as "Child Pornography"
Posted 8/13/14 , edited 8/17/14
I bet some of you heard about the case of Christopher Handley. He was sentenced to jail for buying loli manga. The manga showed sex among minors or adults with minors and even minors with animals (bestiality). USA takes very seriously child pornography even if it is just animated. However, I still thought it was stupid to send a man to jail just because he enjoys porn, but their mentality is: if this man likes animated child pornography, he is a pedophile in real life. >__>

Although I think that is very close minded, I admit that there is a lot of ecchi anime with characters who look underage and that kind of makes me uncomfortable to watch.

I agree with SoldierSangria. I also cant stand to much fan service. It feels like alot of anime atm, has to much fan service. I hope things change soon. Btw sailormoon crystal is a good example of good changes in anime.

Sailor Moon Crystal is based on the MANGA. It has nothing to do with the original anime whatsoever

But heh, thanks for agreeing. The article CNN did was stupid, yet there was some truth in it. The weebos refuse to face the facts.

Old news, stupid news.
Don't give a damn about what they think, or what society's thoughts become. As long as the bastards don't make it illegal like they want to, that's all I need.

On another note, that manga's cover looks pretty damn adorably epic.
*searches for title*

If you haven't already found it, that's Dolls Fall by Makoto Kedouin. Although a word of caution: while it isn't child pornography, it is fairly gorey, so it isn't for the faint of heart.

I also do not agree with the fabrication of statistics that "support the belief this child pornography manga causes people to become pedophiles". Which is a massive lie, that really needs to be eradicated from this topic.

However, i do believe, the sexualization of children in manga, needs to be toned down quite a bit. As someone who has a younger sister, it disturbs me that their are people who get turned on to children around the same age (Real or not).

I'm not sure where you stand from what you say. You seem to think that erotic manga/anime involving fictional underage characters is okay but you personally don't want to see content of that nature and don't like to see it outside of works created for that particular purpose. Is that right?

I've just seen this story so many times and have said the exact same thing. Why some people get really mad over it, I have no idea. Every group has been mentioned in the news a dozen times before in mostly a negative light. You gotcha your Bronies, your Furries, your Democrats, your Republicans, your Christians, your Athiests, etc basically every group of people has been a target of a news network or will become a target. So I see no reason to be upset or even care. The news is like that little kid who constantly tattles on another for the dumbest of reasons.
I know that there can be sketchy stuff in anime/manga, but what that news reporter showed(the blurred manga he was holding) was falsifying information. At most the news reporter should apologize for giving misinformation. Also I think before we point the finger at another country we should handle our problems. Why they don't say something about those child beauty pageants I'll never know.

I can understand some anime has fan service, but that does'nt mean it's porn. If that is the case, almost all american T.V shows will be considered the same. I bet CNN don't have any good news that they need to make some BS up.

Weeaboos or not, CNN is wrong and while I agree with some, most, of what you're saying, you definitely are generalizing too.

And fanservice ≠ CP. 97.8889% of the fanservice I've seen is on more mature animes, but I'm not denying it's been done the opposite as well.

No i do not agree with it, i would prefer to not be sold at all actually. However, since i don't view it, it honestly doesn't bother me, unless someone brings up a topic about it.

However, i do not agree with how CNN has handled it. Which is making up false claims about something they have no knowledge of and then fabricating statistics of the increase in pedophilia. I cant stand propaganda.

The reason i do not agree with it, is not from a moral standpoint. Its from the standpoint of how it makes the world view anime and manga as a whole. Since most people lack the ability to differentiate between Hentai and Anime. So most people come to the conclusion that every anime fan wants to pillage the pooper of every grade/preschooler in the neighborhood.

While i personally dont agree with it, i cant say im really against it. since it has no effect on my day to day life. Do i think it would make a difference if it was illegal? not really. Do i want it to be illegal? not illegal, but definitely toned down.

If it was illegal, it would still be produced by outside sources.

Also, someone made a point earlier, forgot the name. About evangelion and dragon ball Z.

There is GREAT difference between "nudity" and "pornography" especially when used in media.

The nudity in evangelion was specifically for Rei. The nudity was not intended to make you put your hands down your pants. It was showing the characterization of her being un-knowledgeable to the commonly accepted theories of "right and wrong". She didn't have the knowledge to understand that standing in the nude was "wrong" or "perverted". She was basically raised in a lab her entire life.
Its to symbolize innocence at its purest state.

Also, Dragonball Z. Once again, nudity. They were like 4. they didn't have groups of adults trying to rape them did they? no. they were being children.

There is a difference between nudity and pornography. Pornography being those same children shown in gruesome sex acts (mostly rape) or in various other sexual images.

Nudity is not perverted in the slightest, unless your a pre mature teenager who cant help but laugh every-time he sees a breast in a movie.

I bet pedophiles work for CNN. Some of those A/V guys are pretty lonely people after all. Seriously you can find them pretty much anywhere with out any anime or manga.

To me anime and hentai are two different things. anything that gets too sexual is hentai. Although the animation is similar they're still different so i don't like the fact that it's generalized to a point where it makes anime and manga seem so bad

Stick to BBC. They are the most unbiased news organization currently; in my opinion at-least. They do proper investigations before creating their stories.

Most American news stations have some form of political agenda, or some left or right wing bias that blows every news story out of proportion.
