Same here. I liked his character, thought he was absolutely fascinating from a psychological standpoint...however, if I knew a person like Light Yagami in real life, I'd probably punch them in the face.

i think Shou Tucker is a great answer to this thread... after the whole Nina thing + the internet meme behind it, I'd think everyone hates him.

But Naruto and Deidara...? I thought people LOVE those guys.

If you check out Anime Planet he's more hated than loved ( In the rankings)

You probably wouldn't, because you wouldn't know what they were truly like. Only Ryuk really knew what Light was like until the end.

Sorry, I was talking about all anime viewers in general.

Internet polls are often a poor representation of the truth.

Anime fans are generally more outspoken against Naruto than other anime simply because they're against the large following.

The large following itself is where you can find true answers, but through discussion (probably only on forums that have good moderating and rules) and NOT polls.

From a critical point of view I can tell you Danzo was obviously written to be disliked while Naruto himself was written to be liked from the first episode, but Deidara may have remained somewhat in between to be somewhat like-able or respected for his powers and maybe even catch phrase, but still regarded as antagonist as oppose to pre-Edotensei Madara who was simply a TOO LIKEABLE legend until the war where he is written more to be hated. (no, not Tobi, but the actual identity of Madara presented by stories and legends before his res)

Yozora from Haganai gets a fair amount of hate, mostly because of her antics towards Sena, but she's my favorite character in Haganai.

Can't really think of anyone else, as I don't generally like villains or antagonists in the first place. Other than the obvious Naruto Uzumaki, who I'm a big fan of, that's about it.

Yeah, internet polls represent nothing. I never even bother to look at them.

You're also right about being outspoken against Naruto himself because of the series' large following. It's become a meme to hate on Naruto, despite most people not even having seen it.

I'm going to be 100% honest. I've seen enough anime to consider myself a pretty good judge of characters. Yes, Naruto has its flaws, but it has better characters than 95% of shows out there. Naruto himself is a solid protagonist, and is a perfect character for an underdog story. He has more characterization than other shonen protagonists, such as Luffy. I have nothing against Luffy, either, and I love him, but it is what it is. You never see the hate for Luffy, though.

Anyways, the only characters I hate in Naruto are Sakura in the original series. She's fine in Shippuden. I also dislike Karin. The obsessions with "Sasuke-kun" irk me.

I see what you mean by people hating on Naruto for its large following. I mean who cares? Whys that such a bad thing that an anime has a large following, surly that's a good thing. Never really understood that. I was just using Anime Planet as a example by the way. I've been to conventions where I've asked people if they liked Deidara, and pretty much all of them said no. I dunno just from what I've seen, a lot of people don't like him.

Hmmmmmmmm. Good question. I can't think of any right off hand. So this is a place holder while I ponder the imponderables.

Mitsumine Hakuya from Mikakunin de Shinkokei AKA Engaged to the Unidentified. A lot of people complain that he's boring and has no personality, but as a rare male dandere, I think Hakuya has quite a lot of personality- he just doesn't express it much. He's boggled by standard social conventions and the latest technology, but he's one smooth operator when it comes to wooing his lady and is far more proactive in the matter than any idiotic harem lead could claim to be. He genuinely loves Kobeni and wants to do everything he can to make her happy...a real stand-up guy.

What? Hakuya was awesome and Kobeni and Hakuya are one of my favorite couoples. I've never heard anybody dislike anyone in the show other than Benio.

As for the OPs question. I'll go with Yumiko Miura (the blonde) from My Teenage Romantic Comedy. She genuinely cares about her friends, and though her personality is a little rotten she still get's involved when she thinks it's right. Besides, there is just something about the name Miura.

Good point...although an argument could be made that not only Ryuk knew what Light was truly like, but we as the audience were aware of his true nature throughout the series as well.
