Oh, and the thing about Crunchy's streams on Roku always being HD quality... if you keep seeing "loading, please wait" over and over, it's probably due to a lack of available bandwidth. One thing you can do in this situation is to start a video, then hit PAUSE for a full minute or two, and the video will continue to buffer on your device while you have it paused. Go get a snack or whatever. Then, depending on your connection and bandwidth, you might be able to play the stream without seeing the "loading" screen.

However, if you fast-forward or rewind, I believe you lose anything stored up in the buffer and you'll have to pause it again for a bit.

It does not seem to be a bandwidth issue.

I have 'all the bandwidth in the world' on my connection.

But my new-ish top-of-the-line Roku player often gets stuck for a long time on 'loading - please wait'.

A likely culprit is the codec used by Crunchyroll.

I'm getting fed up with the poor 'reception'.

Oh, it's most likely a bandwidth issue, yep. You are sharing that bandwidth with everyone on your local segment... on your street, in your apartment building, neighborhood, whatever. They're all trying to stream video too. ISP's don't guarantee that you'll get the "advertised" downlink speeds at all times.

How on earth could the video encoding be causing any problems? Either it's a stream the Roku can decode or it's not.

Ah My Dear CrunchyRoll.....

I can finally critique you properly about the issues I personally have with the CrunchyRoll app on my Roku Streaming Stick (which is listed as last being updated on December 8th, 2015), especially after having spent time using the Roku VRV app.

Now, I can understand the VRV app had probably been given more resources due to the number of partner channels connected to the project. I get that. But, if you want us LOYAL CrunchyRoll PREMIUM members to link our accounts (because you constantly send us emails to do so), AT LEAST let us carry over SOME of the shows in our queue (well at least the VERY FEW shows you have available on the VRV site, in comparison that is).

I currently have 551 shows in my queue (that is NOT a typo). Yet, I can't barely find 25% of the shows you have on Crunchyroll available on the VRV app. This point is important because the VRV app is WAAY more functional and usable compared to the Crunchyroll app. But asking me linking to VRV has NO USE to me as a LOYAL CrunchyRoll PREMIUM member if I link my account without being able to access the content I have on CR. Yet at the same time, using the Roku CR app has NO USE to me if it feels dated, slow and unusable. I speak for myself by saying I would LOVE to have the user experience of the VRV app AND the access to the 551 (and growing) shows in my CR queue.

That's THE TRUE issue....CR is asking us LOYAL CrunchyRoll PREMIUM members to use a superior VRV Roku app, yet we LOYAL CrunchyRoll PREMIUM members still NEED to use the inferior in comparison Roku CR app to access ALL of the content WE SIGNED UP FOR!!

It just makes the user experience feel very inconstant!

The user experience does not seem to be as inconsistent with the website or the CR iOS and Android apps.
And I cannot speak about the apps on the other platforms. (Playstation, Xbox, etc.)

Now back in the day, I had no problem voicing my opinions on the forums about the iOS app and how much I wanted CR to step up their game to make the iOS app the best it could be. I am glad to say I believe it is! I want CR to be THE place TRUE ANIME FANS go to and enjoy this artform! More than the other streaming services that seem to only care for the revenue ANIME brings in, yet don't understand or respect the culture it comes from (GLITTER SQUAD...anyone?). This starts with the CrunchyRoll user experience being consistent across ALL platforms. That includes the VRV family of apps as well. Hopefully the CR apps will get the same user experience upgrade as the VRV apps in the near future!

EDIT: After playing around with the VRV app, I was able to find alot more of the shows I have in my CR watchlist by using the search feature. Which IMHO is strange because of the SMALL number of shows featured on the CrunchyRoll page on the VRV app and website. The two disappointing discoveries were NOT finding the subbed (not dubbed) versions of eps 13-49 of Fairy Tale, even though those are available in the CR app and NOT finding Sailor Moon Crystal AT ALL......which is just PURE EVIL!!

Almost none of the /publisher/ToeiAnimation titles are there, except Kado.

I don't remember seeing this feature before, not sure if it was and I just missed it before, because I don't go there due to not getting along with the interface at all, but I have to say, these "all of a channel by alpha" lists were sorely needed:

That's a common problem where some shows work and others don't, since about March of last year, with Roku TVs, some sticks, and potentially any other model that may be underpowered compared to something like a Roku-3.

I Just wanted to BUMP this thread. Anyone still having issues with VRV not working on their Roku? Just sent VRV a ticket. Hopefully I can get something worked out soon as I have bought a Roku and wanted to watch anime on my HDTV in the first place dubbed... Does the VRV app work on any different devices? If not I might just say screw it and just watch it on my PS4 and return my Roku box and get a refund... The only reason I got a Roku Box was to stream my anime and watch SlingTV since PS4 doesn't support it. Does Amazon Firestick support VRV? Did anyone have any issues running VRV on FireStick? Thanks.

@RiftEdge "VRV is available on iOS phones/iPads, Android devices (including Android TV), Fire TV, Apple TV, XBOX One, PS4, Chromecast, newer Roku devices and on the Web." https://help.vrv.co/hc/en-us/articles/218030643-What-platforms-can-I-watch-VRV-on-

I don't have a Fire TV/stick, but apparently the app works for some and not for others: https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B078KFQQJM/ref=acr_dpappstore_text/url]

I wish they would close this thread... It is for a prior update when they tried to make the Roku look like a PS3.

This thread is actually the correct announcement for the current version in use right now...

Is it though? The OP message in this thread was updated In April 2018....the last edit made to the OP in the thread you linked is 2015

If you go to the apps page and click more info for Roku , it directs to this thread as well.

Honestly, I am not sure why the apps look so different for the different devices. I haven't used the Fire TV app in a while, but unless it has changed, IMO it was set up better than the PS4 app I have been using recently (just for the convenience of not having to use my HDMI switch)

seems like possibly a completely new thread should be made for the newest update

The OP was mistakenly updated. I think even CR's people must not use Roku themselves, or else they don't know what's going on (maybe both)...

The pictures in the OP of this thread are for the PS3-like prior version. The pictures in the OP of the thread I linked to are the current roku interface ones.

The original date on the OP of this thread was August of 2014, when that abortion of a prior version of the app was released. The original date on the thread I linked to was in December of 2015, when they first released the current version. That is the separate announcement thread for it.
